Lana

Lana sits between the mountains and vineyards of South Tyrol, just south of Merano, in a landscape where Alpine and Mediterranean influences overlap. Apple orchards, vineyards and palm trees fill the valley floor while the mountains rise dramatically around them, dotted with castles, farmhouses and villages shaped by centuries of Tyrolean building traditions. South Tyrol has also developed one of Europe’s most distinctive contemporary architecture scenes. Food and drink share the same meeting of north and south. The surrounding orchards make Lana one of Europe’s great apple-growing areas, while vineyards produce excellent Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer and Schiava. South Tyrol’s concentration of ambitious restaurants, small producers and wineries makes eating unusually important for a mountain destination, whether that means Michelin-starred cooking or a long lunch at a traditional Buschenschank.
