A Landmark Reimagined

Originally built in 1925 as the Liberty Title & Trust Building, this imposing Beaux-Arts landmark has been transformed into one of Philadelphia’s most characterful hotels. Rather than erasing the building’s history, designers Stonehill Taylor embraced it. The soaring lobby retains its original marble balustrades, monumental arched windows and historic clock, allowing nearly a century of architectural heritage to shape a thoroughly contemporary hospitality experience.

Where History Meets Street Culture

The design celebrates Philadelphia’s unique identity by blending classical architecture with the city’s vibrant urban culture. Original stonework and coffered ceilings sit comfortably alongside contemporary furniture, industrial lighting and bold artworks inspired by local street art. Even the graffiti discovered during the restoration found new life in the design, while playful portraits of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson and subtle references to the Liberty Bell add unmistakably Philadelphian character throughout the public spaces.

Industrial Heritage with a Creative Twist

The 179 guestrooms continue the dialogue between old and new. Graphic carpets inspired by graffiti brushstrokes, artwork referencing the Liberty Bell and a palette of navy, teal and slate create interiors that feel fresh, urban and unmistakably local. Clean-lined furnishings and bright bathrooms balance the building’s historic architecture with the contemporary style for which the Aloft brand is known.

A Social Hub for Modern Philadelphia

Perfectly positioned beside the Pennsylvania Convention Center and within walking distance of City Hall, Reading Terminal Market and the Avenue of the Arts, Aloft Philadelphia Downtown is deeply connected to the city around it. The lively W XYZ Bar and Re:mix Lounge attract both locals and visitors, while the rooftop terrace, casual café and fitness centre housed inside the building’s original bank vault add memorable touches that celebrate the property’s remarkable past. Few adaptive reuse projects capture the spirit of their city quite as convincingly as this one.
