A Creative Address Reimagined

Le Ballu Hôtel occupies a remarkable building with an artistic past. Originally the home of painter Charles Wislin in 1891, it later became the headquarters of SACEM before serving as an artists’ residence. Today, owners and architects Julia and Thomas Vidalenc have transformed it into a 37-room boutique hotel that honours the building’s creative legacy while giving it a bold contemporary identity. The history remains tangible. But never nostalgic.

Design with Character

The interiors confidently combine influences that rarely meet. Mid-century Danish furniture, Art Deco geometry, Slavic references, and Eastern European antiques are layered with bespoke textiles designed by Vidalenc himself. Works by Polish constructivist artist Tauba Sarnaka reinforce the artistic narrative, while brass detailing, velvet banquettes, vintage telephones, and rich fabrics add warmth throughout. Every room tells a story. Without feeling overdesigned.

Jewel-Toned Comfort

The guestrooms embrace colour with confidence. Walls painted in citrine yellow, sapphire blue, emerald green, garnet red, and teal are complemented by jacquard headboards, distressed rugs, brass lighting, vintage furniture, and floor-to-ceiling curtains. Faux terrazzo walls, green marble surfaces, rainfall showers, and freestanding bathtubs introduce a luxurious edge, while several rooms open onto private terraces overlooking Parisian rooftops. Even the kitchenettes are thoughtfully integrated. Hidden discreetly behind brushed metal doors.

The Secret Garden

Perhaps the hotel’s greatest surprise lies outdoors. The former garden of Charles Wislin has become one of the neighbourhood’s most beloved dining terraces, filled with mature trees, colourful furniture, and abundant planting. Locals gather alongside hotel guests, giving the restaurant an atmosphere that feels genuinely connected to the surrounding community. It feels hidden. Yet wonderfully alive.

A Rare Urban Escape

Below ground, Le Ballu offers something rarely found in a boutique Paris hotel. A small swimming pool, designed with the atmosphere of a Russian bath, can be reserved exclusively for private use, accompanied by a sauna and an increasingly rare sense of tranquillity in the middle of the city. The experience feels intentionally intimate rather than extravagant. Luxury here is measured through privacy. Not excess.
