The Stay

Hipsters Hotel, Thessaloniki, Greece

A Historic Landmark Reimagined

Hipsters Hotel begins with one of Thessaloniki’s most characterful historic buildings. Designed in 1925 by architect Jacques Moshe, its diamond-patterned façade, decorative iron balconies, monumental entrance door, original tile floors, embossed ceilings, and beautifully preserved timber staircase have all been carefully retained. Rather than disguising the building’s history, the renovation celebrates it at every turn. The past remains visible. The future feels confidently inserted.

Industrial Design with Personality

Creative director Tolis Koumparos introduces a bold contemporary language that contrasts beautifully with the neoclassical architecture. Galvanised steel, exposed black metal, polished concrete, and crisp architectural lines establish an industrial atmosphere, softened by carefully selected lighting and warm materials. Throughout the hotel, design classics by Jean Prouvé, Verner Panton, Tom Dixon, and Gebrüder Thonet create an environment that feels curated rather than decorated. Every object has intention. Every room tells a story.

Seventeen Individually Curated Rooms

With only 17 guestrooms, Hipsters maintains the intimacy of a true boutique hotel. Each room has its own identity while sharing the same architectural honesty and industrial elegance. The Executive Suite, designed by Tom Dixon, stands apart through its dramatic use of copper, concrete, and sculptural lighting, offering one of the city’s most distinctive hotel interiors. Luxury comes through originality. Character outweighs convention.

A Hotel That Lives Through Art

Art is woven into the hotel’s identity. Curated by renowned photographer Stratos Kalafatis, permanent and rotating exhibitions document both the building’s restoration and contemporary artistic practice. The lively café-bar extends this creative atmosphere with artisan coffee, natural wines, and craft cocktails, while The Travelers Shop offers carefully selected design objects and locally inspired pieces. Culture never feels staged. It simply becomes part of everyday life.

At the Heart of Thessaloniki

Located in the historic centre, Hipsters places guests within walking distance of the city’s markets, cafés, waterfront, galleries, and nightlife. It is an ideal base for discovering Thessaloniki’s layered identity, where Ottoman, Jewish, Byzantine, and contemporary influences continue to shape one of Greece’s most creative cities. The neighbourhood feels authentic. The hotel reflects its energy.

Why It Works

Hipsters Hotel succeeds because it refuses to separate history from contemporary design. By preserving the integrity of a remarkable 1925 building while introducing bold industrial interiors, carefully curated art, and iconic furniture, it creates one of Thessaloniki’s most original boutique hotels. It is a place where architecture, culture, and creativity exist in constant dialogue.
