Why DNA Hotels loves it

A joyful reinvention of a Manchester landmark, transforming a former office tower into one of the city's most imaginative lifestyle hotels.

Nature-inspired interiors that combine reclaimed materials, local craftsmanship, and playful design with genuine sustainability.

From open-fire dining and rooftop cocktails to cinema, padel and a wood-fired Finnish sauna, Treehouse has evolved into a genuine urban playground rather than simply a place to sleep.

The Stay

Playful Hospitality Rooted in Nature and Creativity

Treehouse Hotel Manchester brings fresh energy to one of the city’s most recognisable buildings. Occupying the transformed former Renaissance Hotel on Deansgate, the property reinvents the high-rise as a playful urban retreat inspired by the freedom and imagination of childhood treehouses. Rather than pursuing conventional luxury, it embraces creativity, sustainability and a relaxed sense of fun. Opened in 2025, the hotel continues to evolve. Its latest additions extend across the upper floors, adding nine suites and an entire rooftop world of restaurants, bars and social spaces.

Nature Meets Nostalgia

The interiors are warm, tactile and deliberately unconventional. Reclaimed timber, abundant planting, handcrafted furniture, vintage finds and playful details create spaces that feel inviting rather than formal. Local art and creative interventions ensure that Manchester’s character remains part of the experience. For the new upper floors, House of Black worked with the Starwood Hotels design team, continuing that layered approach with reclaimed wood, textiles, greenery, found objects, pressed flowers, mixed-media artworks, etched mirrors and expressive wallpaper. Nothing feels too polished or coordinated. That informality is part of Treehouse’s identity.

Rooms Designed to Unwind

Guestrooms balance natural materials with contemporary comfort. Soft textures, calming colours, bespoke joinery and carefully considered lighting create restful spaces that feel more like urban hideaways than conventional hotel rooms, while large windows turn Manchester itself into part of the interior. The nine new suites on the 11th and 12th floors significantly expand that idea. Presidential Suites and interconnecting accommodations introduce proper living spaces, walk-in wardrobes, kitchenettes, dining areas and reading nooks. Some can be joined together, shifting Treehouse from short city stay towards something closer to a temporary home above Manchester.

Manchester Above the Rooftops

The biggest transformation is happening at the top of the building. Sister Moon, on the 14th floor, is led by chef Sam Grainger with Luke Cowdrey and Justin Crawford. British produce meets Southeast Asian flavours, barbecue techniques and open-fire cooking, while New Moon Suppers and food, cocktail and music pairings push the restaurant beyond a conventional dining room. Above it, The Nest is an agave-focused cocktail bar built around the skyline, music and guest DJs. The Hideout adds an outdoor rooftop terrace and more intimate lounge for performances, dinners and private gatherings. Together they turn the upper floors into a destination of their own, while downstairs Mary-Ellen McTague’s Pip remains the hotel’s all-day lounge and bar. Flix, a 43-seat screening room, adds another layer to a hotel increasingly built around things to do rather than amenities to tick off.

From Playground to Padel

Treehouse takes its idea of play unusually literally. The Playground combines Technogym equipment with movement classes, yoga, group workouts and guided meditation, but the concept now extends outside the building. Next door, guests have access to The Pollen Club’s two covered padel courts, including lessons, tournaments and Friday evening Serve & Social sessions combining padel with DJs, drinks and food from Sister Moon. The Good Sauna Co. adds a very different kind of communal experience: an outdoor wood-fired Finnish sauna, cold plunge and campfire area. The result is less conventional hotel wellness than a collection of ways to move, meet people and spend time together.

A Treehouse for the City

Treehouse Hotel Manchester works because the childhood treehouse idea isn’t confined to swings, greenery and playful decoration. It increasingly determines how the entire hotel functions. There are places to hide away and places deliberately designed to bring people together. A screening room, rooftop lounge, open-fire restaurant, cocktail bar, padel courts and communal sauna all become different versions of the same idea: spaces for discovery, play and social connection. Manchester supplied the high-rise. Treehouse has gradually turned it into something much less predictable.
