The Stay

The Venice Venice Hotel - Venice, Italy

A Palazzo Looking Towards the Future

Standing proudly on the Grand Canal opposite the Rialto Market, The Venice Venice Hotel occupies the extraordinary Ca’ da Mosto, a thirteenth-century Venetian-Byzantine palace whose history mirrors that of Venice itself. Once a trading house, later a celebrated hotel for Grand Tour travellers, and eventually left abandoned for decades, the building has now entered an entirely new chapter. Created by Golden Goose founders Francesca Rinaldo and Alessandro Gallo, the project introduces what they call a “post-Venetian” vision—one that honours the city’s remarkable past while embracing its role as a global centre of contemporary creativity. Rather than preserving Venice as a museum, the hotel imagines what its future might look like.

Where History Meets Radical Design

The five-year restoration carefully preserved the soul of the original palace. Its Byzantine façade, monumental staircase, brass windows, exposed brickwork, and centuries-old architectural details remain beautifully intact, allowing every room to reveal the building’s extraordinary age. Against this historic backdrop unfolds a bold contemporary interior that confidently rejects traditional Venetian luxury. Patinated walls, raw plaster, industrial finishes, sculptural furniture, contemporary photography, tapestries, and museum-quality artworks create an atmosphere that feels more like a private cultural foundation than a conventional hotel. Nothing here feels predictable. Every room, corridor, and staircase offers another unexpected conversation between past and present.

Art as Everyday Life

Art is not decoration at The Venice Venice Hotel—it is the very foundation of the experience. Guests enter across the now-iconic reflective entrance floor before encountering Fabio Viale’s monumental marble Souvenir Pietà, a striking reinterpretation of Michelangelo’s masterpiece that immediately establishes the hotel’s creative ambition. Throughout the building, paintings, photography, sculpture, installations, and rare design objects from the owners’ personal collection transform the palace into a living gallery. One particularly remarkable mirror incorporates five-hundred-year-old clay excavated from the building’s own foundations, demonstrating how even the smallest details continue the dialogue between history and contemporary expression. Every space encourages curiosity.

Rooms Shaped by Creativity

The hotel’s forty-two guestrooms, spread across the main palace and adjoining buildings, continue the same fearless approach. Historic architecture provides the backdrop for bold contemporary interiors filled with original artworks, bespoke furniture, sculptural lighting, rich textiles, and carefully curated design objects. Canal-facing rooms frame unforgettable views of passing gondolas and the Rialto Bridge, while others surprise with twin freestanding bathtubs, dramatic colour palettes, and large-scale contemporary photography. Every room has its own identity, making each stay feel entirely unique. Rather than recreating historic Venice, the interiors present a city that remains creatively restless.

A New Social Hub on the Grand Canal

The hotel’s vibrant ground floor continues the spirit of exchange that once defined Ca’ da Mosto. Venice M’Art effortlessly combines café, concept store, wine bar, restaurant, and cultural meeting place within one constantly evolving space. Breakfast unfolds quietly beside the Grand Canal, while afternoons bring relaxed cicchetti, aperitivi, and conversations between guests, locals, artists, and designers. As evening arrives, Francy’s restaurant celebrates Venetian cuisine through fresh contemporary interpretations served beneath Byzantine arches or outside on one of the city’s most spectacular canal-side terraces. It is Venice seen not as a destination, but as an ongoing cultural conversation.

Why It Works

The Venice Venice Hotel succeeds because it understands that Venice has always been a city of innovation as much as tradition. By transforming one of the city’s oldest palazzi into a living platform for contemporary art, design, fashion, and hospitality, Francesca Rinaldo and Alessandro Gallo have created one of Europe’s most exciting hotel experiences. Bold without becoming theatrical, respectful without becoming nostalgic, it offers a compelling vision of what Venice can become while celebrating everything that has made it extraordinary for centuries.
