1 Hotel Toronto
Where Nature Moves In
A Sustainable Sanctuary in the Sky
Amid the steel and glass towers of Toronto’s booming skyline, 1 Hotel Toronto offers something entirely different—peace. But not the quiet kind you find in a generic spa. This is a grounded, leafy, deeply intentional sort of calm. It’s where design meets ecology, and where you’re invited to unplug, slow down, and reconnect—with the Earth, and maybe yourself.
From the outside, it may look like another upscale address in King West. Step inside, though, and you’ll find a lush sanctuary where native greenery spills from every ledge, reclaimed wood lines the walls, and the smell of fresh herbs gently lingers in the air. This is luxury redefined—elevated, earthy, and entirely in step with the planet.
Inspired by Ontario, Built to Belong
The design brief? Celebrate the raw, elemental beauty of Ontario. Mission accomplished. In the lobby, a 5,000-pound boulder reception desk—yes, really—sets the tone, alongside slabs of Eramosa limestone and cascading planters of native maple and cedar. It’s tactile, grounded, and unmistakably of this place.
Legendary designer David Rockwell tapped Toronto studio Just Be Woodsy to craft furniture from salvaged local trees—no logging, just storm-fallen trunks with a story. The result: rich, textured pieces that feel both wild and refined. You’ll find them in everything from nightstands to headboards, each one with grain patterns as individual as fingerprints.
More Than a Hotel—A Living System
With over 3,300 plants throughout the property, 1 Hotel Toronto feels more like a vertical forest than a boutique hotel. Terrariums dot the hallways. A green roof feeds the kitchen. In-room moss walls invite deep breaths. It’s the kind of place where you want to walk barefoot and drink herbal tea while contemplating becoming a better person.
And it’s not just for show. The hotel runs on geothermal energy, composts its waste, filters tap water into carafes, and says no to single-use plastics. It’s hospitality with a conscience—slick enough for the city, yet grounded enough to care.
Earthy, Effortless Comfort
Rooms are stripped back but sumptuous—think hemp mattresses, organic robes, stone sinks, and soft lighting that mimics the glow of golden hour. Earth tones dominate, but it never feels dull. Instead, the aesthetic mirrors the muted shimmer of Lake Ontario at dusk. Cozy but not precious, stylish without shouting.
At Harriet’s, the rooftop bar, you get skyline views with a side of sustainability. Downstairs, 1 Kitchen serves locally sourced plates with produce picked fresh from the rooftop garden. Every bite—and every design detail—feels considered.
DNA Hotels Verdict
1 Hotel Toronto is the kind of place that makes you rethink what luxury means. It doesn’t scream design—it whispers intention. It’s a lush, local, low-impact haven that proves sustainability can be seductive. A full-sensory, slow-living kind of stay that leaves you feeling better, lighter, and quietly inspired.
