Arctic Bath: A Floating Sanctuary in Swedish Lapland
Where wilderness, wellness, and design meet on the edge of the Arctic Circle

Nature’s Rhythm, Reimagined

Tucked away in the untouched expanse of Swedish Lapland, Arctic Bath offers an experience like no other: it floats serenely on the Lule River in summer and freezes into the ice during winter. Set in the remote village of Harads, this architectural marvel isn’t just a hotel—it’s a soulful, sustainable sanctuary that reinterprets the classic Swedish ice bath and sauna ritual with bold, contemporary flair.

Where the River Meets Design

Conceived by five visionaries and designed by acclaimed architects Bertil Harström (of Treehotel fame) and Johan Kauppi, Arctic Bath orbits around a striking open-air cold bath. This central ring, framed by three saunas, hot baths, a treatment room, and a cozy restaurant and bar, feels both raw and refined. Twelve guest rooms—six floating and six perched on the riverbank—merge effortlessly with their natural surroundings. The riverbank suites, designed by Swedish artist Ann Kathrin Lundqvist, offer panoramic glass fronts for deep immersion in the arctic forest.

Scandi Soul, Sami Heart

Sustainability isn’t an afterthought here—it’s the blueprint. Local pine, Baltic grey limestone, reindeer hides, and aged leather form the textural palette, creating interiors that are warm, grounded, and unmistakably Nordic. Modern Swedish craftsmanship features throughout, with pieces from Karl Andersson och Söner and Atelje Lyktan lending quiet sophistication. And yes, there’s a crackling log burner in every room, the kind of comfort that makes you want to stay in and watch the snow fall.

A Taste of the North

Led by chef Kristoffer Åström, Arctic Bath’s restaurant mirrors the purity of its setting. Interiors are minimalist and natural—wood, soft whites, clean lines—while the menu sings with hyperlocal flavor. Inspired by traditional Sami recipes, each set meal is composed daily based on what the forests, rivers, and nearby farms yield. Think wild-caught fish, game meats, and hand-foraged produce—nothing travels far, everything tells a story.

DNA Hotels Verdict

A singular retreat where Swedish minimalism, arctic nature, and indigenous tradition flow together in perfect balance. Arctic Bath doesn’t shout luxury—it whispers it, in every warm detail and every breath of icy air. Floating in summer, frozen in winter, it’s an experience deeply connected to place, season, and spirit.
