Artist Residence Brighton
Seaside Stay with Soul
The Story: Art from the Heart
Brighton’s not short on character—but if you’re looking for a place to stay that’s as quirky, creative, and full of life as the city itself, Artist Residence Brighton is your spot. Nestled in a pair of Regency townhouses overlooking the sea, this 24-room boutique hotel is part art gallery, part cozy getaway, and 100% Brighton cool. It all began back in 2008, when a then-20-year-old Justin Salisbury stepped in to run his family’s guesthouse. Instead of going the traditional route, he put out a call to local artists: “Come decorate a room, and stay for free.” The result? A bold, vibrant hotel that’s unlike anything else in town. Every room is individually designed—some edgy and industrial, others warm and whimsical—but all with a sense of soul. Expect reclaimed wood, splashy murals, vintage touches, and clever details like SMEG fridges and Roberts radios. A few even have roll-top bathtubs and sweeping sea views.
Eat, Drink & Stay a While
Downstairs, you’ll find The Set, a modern British restaurant known for inventive, seasonal plates. The vibe is intimate and relaxed—perfect for a slow dinner or a celebration that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Just next door is the Set Bar, where local ingredients make their way into playful, expertly made cocktails. It’s the kind of spot where you start with one drink and end up chatting with locals into the night.
Location, Location, Art
Situated on Regency Square, you’re just a pebble’s toss from the beach, Brighton Pier, and the famously offbeat Lanes shopping district. Whether you’re here to chill, party, or soak up some seaside culture, you’re right in the middle of it all.
The DNA Hotels Verdict
Artist Residence Brighton nails that rare mix of boutique comfort and laid-back personality. It’s stylish without being pretentious, artsy without being overwhelming, and cozy without being boring. Whether you’re a couple on a creative weekend away, a solo explorer, or in town with friends, this place makes you feel instantly at home—with a twist.
