Baja Club, La Paz
Desert Elegance on the Sea of Cortez
Where Heritage Meets Coastal Modernity
Perched along the sun-soaked boardwalk of La Paz, Baja California Sur’s capital, Baja Club is Grupo Habita’s 14th project—a showcase of adaptive reuse and contemporary flair. The property transforms an early 20th-century villa into a 32-room design retreat, expanded by a sleek four-story addition that integrates seamlessly with the historic architecture. By marrying past and present, Baja Club tells a story of both La Paz’s heritage and its modern revival.
Design Rooted in Place
Visionaries Carlos Couturier and Moisés Micha drew inspiration from La Paz’s nautical setting while weaving in Mexico’s artisanal traditions. The interiors blend earthy reds and greens reminiscent of traditional earthenware, textures from woven natural fibers, and subtle desert tones. Local craftsmanship punctuates every detail, grounding the property in authenticity while maintaining Grupo Habita’s trademark cosmopolitan edge. The villa’s original character is preserved in arches, courtyards, and verandas, while the new extension adds contemporary light-filled rooms, framing views of the Sea of Cortez and the vibrant coastal city beyond.
Public Spaces That Flow with Energy
At the heart of Baja Club is its social rhythm: a tranquil pool and spa for restorative afternoons, a refined restaurant serving local flavors with modern technique, and a rooftop bar offering sweeping panoramas of La Paz’s waterfront. These spaces flow naturally from one another, creating a sense of continuity between relaxation, dining, and community. Grupo Habita’s design DNA shines through—hip, stylish, yet grounded in the locale, ensuring Baja Club feels less like an international import and more like an organic part of La Paz’s evolving cultural fabric.
DNA Hotels Verdict
Baja Club is adaptive reuse at its most elegant—a property that respects history while injecting it with desert modernity and coastal cool. By pairing a restored villa with a sleek new extension, Grupo Habita delivers a hotel that feels timeless yet current, refined yet relaxed. For travelers, it’s more than a stay: it’s La Paz reframed through architecture, design, and spirit.
