The EVE Hotel Sydney – Sydney, Australia
Where Design Meets Dreamscape in Sydney’s Creative Heart
Why DNA Hotels Loves It
● One of Sydney’s most exciting new design hotels, created as the centrepiece of the vibrant Wunderlich Lane precinct.
● Biophilic architecture, Australian materials, and interiors by George Livissianis create a strong sense of place.
● A genuinely social hotel where locals and travellers share the same restaurants, bars, rooftop pool, and creative energy.
A New Generation of Sydney Hotel
The EVE Hotel Sydney arrives at a moment when the city’s creative centre of gravity is shifting away from the harbour and towards neighbourhoods like Redfern and Surry Hills. Positioned at the heart of the new Wunderlich Lane development, the hotel feels deeply embedded in the life of the city around it. Rather than existing as an isolated luxury destination, it forms part of a broader ecosystem of restaurants, cafés, boutiques, galleries, bars, and public spaces. The result is a hotel that feels connected rather than detached — one that captures the energy of contemporary Sydney rather than simply observing it. This is not postcard Sydney. This is Sydney lived locally.
Australian Design, Rooted in Place
Designed by SJB Architects with interiors by George Livissianis, The EVE draws heavily from Australia’s landscape, colours, and natural materials. Throughout the hotel, eucalyptus greens, burnt ochres, earthy reds, warm timber, terrazzo, leather, natural stone, and textured fabrics create a palette that feels unmistakably Australian. The architecture takes inspiration from the site’s original nineteenth-century pleasure gardens, weaving greenery into almost every aspect of the design. Courtyards, balconies, climbing plants, landscaped walkways, and garden spaces soften the building and blur the boundaries between hotel and landscape. The effect is both urban and natural. Refined without feeling polished. Contemporary without losing warmth.
A Lobby Designed for Living
The arrival experience immediately establishes the hotel’s personality. Rather than a formal reception space, the lobby feels more like a social living room. Electric-blue seating, sculptural furniture, glazed breezeblock walls, curved ceramic reception counters, and contemporary Australian artworks create an atmosphere that is playful, artistic, and distinctly uncorporate. Guests linger rather than pass through. Locals stop for coffee, meetings, or drinks. The space constantly evolves throughout the day, reflecting the rhythm of the city outside.
Rooms with a Sense of Place
The EVE’s 102 guestrooms and suites continue the same design language while introducing a more residential atmosphere. Every room features either a private balcony or terrace, creating a direct connection to the surrounding neighbourhood, landscaped courtyard, or Sydney skyline. Rather than adopting generic international luxury standards, the rooms embrace local character. Velvet banquettes, terrazzo detailing, natural materials, custom furnishings, and carefully considered layouts encourage guests to spend time in the space rather than simply sleep in it. Bathrooms feature colourful tiled surfaces inspired by Sydney’s urban palette, while minibars showcase local producers, including Sydney spirits, craft beers, artisan snacks, and locally sourced glassware. The experience feels personal rather than standardised.
The Rooftop That Sydney Actually Uses
One of the hotel’s greatest successes is its rooftop. Centered around a twenty-metre swimming pool surrounded by palms, cabanas, and retro-inspired umbrellas, the space feels surprisingly resort-like for an inner-city location. As the day progresses, the atmosphere shifts naturally from relaxed poolside retreat to one of the city’s most desirable sunset gathering spots. Adjacent rooftop restaurant Lottie adds further energy with Mexican-inspired cuisine, mezcal-focused cocktails, and interiors that balance sophistication with playfulness. Importantly, the rooftop belongs as much to Sydney as it does to the hotel. Locals come here because they genuinely want to be here.
A Social Hotel at Every Level
While many hotels claim to create community, The EVE succeeds because it has become part of an existing one. Bar Julius, located on the ground floor, acts as a neighbourhood café, cocktail bar, meeting place, and all-day dining destination. Guests and locals flow naturally through the space throughout the day, creating a social atmosphere that feels authentic rather than curated. Across Wunderlich Lane, independent restaurants, bars, and retail concepts further strengthen the sense that the hotel is part of a larger creative district rather than a standalone property. Everything feels connected.
Sydney Beyond the Harbour
The EVE reflects a side of Sydney often overlooked by traditional luxury hotels. This is the city of independent boutiques, creative studios, contemporary galleries, neighbourhood cafés, live music venues, and evolving urban culture. It is less concerned with postcard views and more interested in authenticity, community, and local identity. The hotel mirrors that spirit perfectly. Polished but never corporate. Design-driven but never intimidating. Social without becoming performative.
A Hotel That Understands Contemporary Sydney
The EVE Hotel Sydney succeeds because it understands that great hospitality is about more than beautiful rooms. Architecture, landscaping, interiors, food, art, music, and community all work together to create an experience that feels genuinely connected to its location. For travellers seeking Sydney’s creative heartbeat rather than its tourist clichés, The EVE offers one of the city’s most compelling new addresses — a hotel where contemporary Australian design, neighbourhood culture, and urban energy come together effortlessly.
