G-Rough – Rome’s Decadent Design Den
A rebellious twist on Roman heritage, where patina meets provocation
Style: architectural hotel, boutique hotel, design hotel
Vibe: lively
DNA: industrial chic, mid-century, rough luxe, singular suite, vintage
An Anti-Hotel in the Eternal City
Just steps from the iconic Piazza Navona, G-Rough tears up the luxury hotel rulebook in the most stylish way. Housed in a 17th-century townhouse, this ten-suite bolthole redefines what it means to stay in Rome. Forget polished marble lobbies and golden chandeliers—G-Rough celebrates raw walls, worn frescoes, exposed timber beams, and mid-century Italian design with a nonchalant swagger that feels uniquely Roman.
Created by Gabriele Salini (also the mind behind Palazzo Daniele), the hotel is intentionally “rough” around the edges—a tribute to the beauty of imperfection and the drama of history left visible. Every cracked wall or faded corner tells a story, and instead of disguising time’s passage, G-Rough exalts it.
Where Art, Design, and Drama Collide
Each of the ten suites is named after a 20th-century Italian design icon—think Gio Ponti, Guglielmo Ulrich, or Ico Parisi—with original vintage pieces punctuating the space. But this isn’t a museum. Interiors blend bohemian elegance with radical restraint: velvet armchairs, sculptural light fittings, brass accents, and freestanding clawfoot tubs, all framed by a moody palette of taupe, charcoal, and gold. Bathrooms, some hidden behind heavy velvet curtains or mirrored panels, play with voyeurism and intimacy. The lighting is sultry, the proportions dramatic, and the vibe distinctly cinematic.
A Social, Sensual Hideaway
The hotel’s communal heart is the retro-cool G-Bar on the ground floor—a living room-meets-lounge serving aperitivi and showcasing Rome’s creative set. Upstairs, suites offer views over terracotta rooftops, cupolas, and the intimate backstreets of the Campo Marzio district. G-Rough doesn’t just sell you a room—it invites you into a lifestyle: sexy, theatrical, and gloriously unpolished.
DNA Hotels Verdict
G-Rough is Rome at its most rebellious—artful, decadent, and unfiltered. A stay here feels like slipping behind the velvet curtain of the city’s creative elite. For design lovers and aesthetes craving mood, meaning, and a touch of madness, this is the capital’s most evocative address.
