Jnane Rumi – An Artistic Oasis Reborn in the Palm Groves
A Cultural Sanctuary in Marrakech’s Palmeraie
A Private Estate, Public Soul
Nestled in Marrakech’s serene Palmeraie, Jnane Rumi has opened in April 2025 as an 11-suite house‑hotel—a transformative project that honors its origins as a mid‑20th‑century private residence designed by Charles Boccara. With sweeping century-old palm groves and olive trees at its core, the estate weaves restorative calm with cultural resonance.
Gardens That Breathe, Spaces That Speak
The property unfolds across lush grounds dotted with 150‑year‑old palms, elegant pavilions, and a separate annex—all anchored by a 13 × 6 m tiled pool. Communal spaces include a Rumi Bar with panoramic garden views, a library tucked into quiet nooks, and terraces shaded by bougainvillea—designed for gathering, reflection, and sensory immersion.
Art as Atmosphere
Curated by Moroccan artist Samy Snoussi, the art collection spans North Africa and Europe: murals, frescoes, tapestries, and site‑specific installations by Mous Lamrabat, Louis Barthélemy, Roberto Ruspoli, Margaux Derhy, and more. Art isn’t decoration—it’s woven into every lounge, corridor, and pavilion.
Rooms That Feel Singular
The 11 suites are housed in the main villa, intimate pavilions, and a standalone annex—each uniquely styled. Highlights include domed skylights, mustard-hued accents, and carved wood details that trace a line from Moroccan tradition to European modernity.
Cuisine and Ceremony
Under Dutch chef Karin Gaasterland, dining fuses Moroccan and European traditions: think tagine with lamb and merguez, fresh fish, and wild garden produce—served poolside, under shade, or in the dining room. Complemented by signature scents like oud and herbal teas, meals feel ritualistic, rooted, and revelatory.
Design That Unfolds
Renovation was a seven-year creative dialogue involving Boccara protégé Nicolas Bodé, Belgian creative Jacques van Nieuwerburgh, Dutch owner Gert‑Jan van den Bergh, and Moroccan-Dutch designer Mina Abouzahra. They retained the villa’s original proportions and character, while layering in modern art, ceramics, textiles, and lighting to refresh the cultural texture.
DNA Hotels Verdict
Jnane Rumi is a palace for the curious—a place of light, craft, gardens, and artistic dialogue inside the legendary Palmeraie oasis. For travelers drawn to architecture as storytelling, food as culture, and art as environment, this is Marrakech—and beyond—reimagined.
