The Johri

The DNA

The Johri, Jaipur
Where a 19th-century merchant’s haveli finds new life through timeless Rajasthani craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and quiet luxury.

Why DNA Hotels Loves It

● A beautifully restored 19th-century haveli hidden within the vibrant lanes of Jaipur’s historic Johri Bazaar.
● Just five individually designed suites, each inspired by a precious gemstone and layered with handcrafted local details.
● An intimate boutique hotel where heritage, contemporary design, and genuine hospitality come together effortlessly.

A Hidden Sanctuary in the Pink City

Finding The Johri is part of the experience. Hidden deep within the maze of Johri Bazaar, one of Jaipur’s oldest jewellery districts, the hotel reveals itself quietly behind an unassuming entrance. Once inside, the city’s energy fades away, replaced by the calm of a sunlit courtyard, carved archways, latticed balconies, and the scent of jasmine. Originally built as a merchant’s haveli in the 19th century, the property has been lovingly restored by Honawar Hospitality together with New York-based designer Naina Shah. Rather than erasing its history, every intervention celebrates it, allowing centuries-old architecture to coexist naturally with contemporary comfort.

Five Suites Inspired by Precious Stones

With only five suites, The Johri offers an experience defined by personality rather than scale. Each suite is named after a precious gemstone—Manak, Moti, Sona, Neelam, and Panna—and interpreted through its own palette of colours, textures, and handcrafted details. Antique furniture, bespoke textiles, locally made ceramics, and carefully curated artworks give every room its own identity while preserving the haveli’s original character. Original doors, decorative niches, carved timber, and traditional jharokhas remain beautifully intact, creating interiors that feel authentic, elegant, and unmistakably Jaipur.

Design That Breathes

Designer Naina Shah allows the architecture to remain the star. Traditional Rajasthani craftsmanship is layered with subtle Art Deco influences, natural materials, and understated contemporary comforts. Patterned marble floors, antique mirrors, handcrafted brass details, and richly textured fabrics create interiors that feel timeless rather than nostalgic. Natural light moves gently through the house throughout the day, revealing new details with every passing hour.

The Courtyard as the Heart of the House

Life at The Johri revolves around its peaceful inner courtyard. Breakfast is served beneath the open sky, afternoons drift by over chai, and evenings unfold beneath softly glowing lanterns. The courtyard restaurant celebrates vegetarian cuisine rooted in Rajasthan’s culinary traditions, using seasonal ingredients and refined Ayurvedic influences. The adjoining Pukhraj Lounge evolves naturally throughout the day—from morning tea and afternoon high tea to intimate evenings serving inventive cocktails inspired by local botanicals.

Jaipur Beyond the Palaces

The Johri places guests in one of Jaipur’s most fascinating historic neighbourhoods. Outside the haveli, jewellers, spice merchants, textile workshops, temples, and artisan studios continue traditions that have shaped the Pink City for centuries. The City Palace, Hawa Mahal, and Jantar Mantar are all within walking distance, making it easy to experience Jaipur at street level before retreating to the quiet sanctuary of the hotel. Crossing the threshold back into the courtyard always feels like entering another world.

Why it works

The Johri succeeds because it embraces intimacy over grandeur. Its beautifully restored architecture, carefully layered interiors, and deeply personal atmosphere create a hotel that feels genuinely connected to Jaipur’s heritage. Rather than recreating royal opulence, it celebrates the elegance of a traditional merchant’s home, where every space tells a story and every detail feels considered. For travellers seeking an authentic, design-led stay in the heart of the Pink City, The Johri is one of India’s most memorable boutique hotels.
