A Historic Landmark with a New Beat
Standing proudly on one of Deep Ellum’s most storied corners, the Kimpton Pittman occupies the former Knights of Pythias Temple, a building that has played an important role in Dallas’ African American history since 1916. Designed by pioneering architect William Sidney Pittman, the landmark has been carefully restored and complemented by a contemporary new-build tower, allowing its historic architecture to continue shaping one of Dallas’ most vibrant neighbourhoods.
Honouring the Past, Looking Forward
Perkins&Will, working alongside Busta Studio and the Dallas Historical Society, approached the restoration with remarkable sensitivity. Original brick façades, arched windows and Beaux-Arts detailing remain intact, while interiors embrace exposed steel, raw concrete, warm leather, timber and bespoke furnishings. Throughout the hotel, works by local artists, archival photography and carefully selected decorative pieces celebrate both the building’s history and the creative spirit that continues to define Deep Ellum today.

The 165 guestrooms combine residential comfort with understated sophistication. Soft neutral palettes are complemented by leather-stitched headboards, handcrafted furnishings and artwork by Dallas-based artists, while subtle accents of green, orange and charcoal reference the neighbourhood’s vibrant character.
