La Fondation – Brutalism Reimagined with Soul
A Cultural, Wellness, and Hospitality Hub in the Heart of Paris
From Garage to Landmark
Once a utilitarian 1960s garage, La Fondation has been transformed into one of Paris’ most innovative boutique hotels. Located between Parc Monceau and the vibrant village atmosphere of Les Batignolles, the property is now a multifaceted destination blending hospitality, wellness, work, and culture. Architecture firm PCA-STREAM preserved the building’s Brutalist DNA—spiral ramp and expansive industrial volumes included—while flooding interiors with natural light through large bay windows that open to the city.
Warmth Meets Brutalism
New York design powerhouse Roman and Williams injected warmth into the raw concrete structure. Inspired by Paris’ late Modernist period, the interiors feature color-blocked walls framed in oak—a subtle nod to Yves Saint Laurent’s 1965 Mondrian dress—and custom-designed brass, glass, and patinated metal fixtures. The result is a dialogue between hard-edged architecture and tactile, inviting interiors.
An Urban Resort Experience
La Fondation’s 58 rooms, including three suites, balance contemporary design with comfort and light. Amenities are as ambitious as the architecture:
-
Two restaurants led by local chef Thomas Rossi, offering both brasserie classics and fine dining.
-
Rooftop bar with panoramic views stretching from Sacré-Cœur to the Eiffel Tower.
-
Wellness center featuring a semi-Olympic pool, climbing wall, spa, saunas, hammam, and treatment rooms.
A Cultural and Creative Ecosystem
True to its name, La Fondation serves as a cultural foundation, hosting concerts, exhibitions, themed dinners, and talks. Modern office spaces, hanging gardens, and an auditorium extend its reach beyond hospitality, creating a hub for professionals and creatives who thrive on inspiration and community.
DNA Hotels Verdict
La Fondation pushes the boundaries of what a boutique hotel can be—part retreat, part cultural incubator, part wellness haven. By marrying Brutalist architecture with warm, curated interiors and a program of events that engage both travelers and locals, it stands out as one of Paris’ boldest new addresses.
