A Storied Villa Reimagined

Overlooking the tranquil blue of Lake Constance, the 1911-built Swiss villa known as Mammertsberg has entered a bold new chapter. Once a traditional country house, this elegant property has been transformed into a deeply refined boutique hotel and culinary destination — thanks to a dream team of Andreas Caminada, the culinary genius behind three Michelin-starred Schloss Schauenstein, and Silvio Germann, chef de cuisine at IGNIV Bad Ragaz. Together, they’ve infused Mammertsberg with what they call “fine dining with joy, imagination, alpine DNA and a cosmopolitan spirit.” And that spirit flows effortlessly through every corner of the house.

Space Copenhagen’s Design Alchemy

Danish masters of quiet luxury, Space Copenhagen, were entrusted with the interior makeover. Their brief? Respect the bones of the 1911 building while reimagining it for modern sensibilities. Not an easy feat, especially considering the property’s listed status. But they nailed it. Working within the classical proportions — high ceilings, generous openings, wood-paneled walls — they introduced a warm, tactile palette. The original silver spiral staircase by Tilla Theus (of Widder Hotel Zurich fame) was left untouched, but painted black, becoming a sculptural centerpiece around which the design unfolds. Lighting is key here: Michael Anastassiades’ mobile chandeliers, Mathieu Matégot wall lights, and other sculptural pieces cast soft, ambient glow. Furniture is a blend of bespoke creations (in partnership with Malte Gormsen carpentry studio in Copenhagen) and standout pieces from Gubi — like Space’s own Stay Chairs and Wonder Sofas, nestled in the lounges below.

A Culinary Experience First — and Always

The open kitchen and restaurant space is the beating heart of Mammertsberg. At its center: a striking antique chopping block, flanked by a welcoming bar and a long, convivial table in the vaulted cellar — once used to age cheeses. Here, house-aged meats, seasonal ingredients, and stunning wine pairings are the order of the day. Andreas Caminada’s personal art collection adorns the walls, rotating over time, with additional curated objects — books, ceramics, glassware — bringing a lived-in, cultural warmth to the refined space.

Six Rooms, Each a Design-Forward Retreat

Upstairs, just six guest rooms make this a true boutique experience. Each is individually styled, yet all speak the same visual language: plush materials, natural woods, moody lighting, and intimate, calming tones that echo the landscape outside. You’re not here for flash — you’re here for soul. The rooms deliver it in spades, with every object carefully considered, every line intentional.

DNA Hotels Verdict

Mammertsberg isn’t just a hotel — it’s a complete sensorial experience. A place where you dine on world-class cuisine surrounded by handpicked design, sleep in spaces that soothe rather than shout, and wake to the sound of alpine silence above Lake Constance. It’s rare to find a hotel that nails both gourmet ambition and boutique intimacy. This one does — and then some.
