Moxy Downtown Los Angeles
Playful Design and Social Energy Above Downtown LA

Why DNA Hotels Loves It

● Yabu Pushelberg transforms Moxy’s playful personality into a bold interpretation of California’s adventurous spirit.
● Level 8 brings together an extraordinary collection of restaurants, bars, nightlife, and entertainment under one roof.
● Vibrant social spaces, clever guestrooms, and an unmistakable sense of fun make this one of Downtown LA’s liveliest design hotels.

A Playground Above the City

Sharing a striking 37-storey tower with AC Hotel Downtown Los Angeles, Moxy delivers the energetic counterpart. Where AC embraces calm refinement, Moxy celebrates creativity, spontaneity, and social connection. Designed by Yabu Pushelberg, the hotel draws inspiration from California’s free-spirited culture, desert landscapes, and the countercultural road trips immortalised in Easy Rider. It is less a traditional hotel than a vertical social hub where design, music, food, and nightlife continuously overlap.

California, Reimagined

Rather than relying on bright colours alone, the interiors tell a richer story. The expansive lobby combines rammed-earth-inspired walls, mirrored columns that evoke shimmering desert mirages, custom carpets featuring winding snake motifs, motorcycle-inspired leather seating, and sculptural tables recalling weathered driftwood. The atmosphere feels adventurous, cinematic, and unmistakably Californian. Every public space invites guests to explore, gather, and linger. Even the reception feels more like the opening scene of a night out than a hotel arrival.

Compact Rooms, Clever Design

The guestrooms offer a quieter interpretation of the Moxy personality. Smart layouts maximise every square metre with fold-away furniture, open storage, peg walls replacing traditional wardrobes, and oversized windows overlooking the Downtown skyline. Warm oak finishes, copper lighting inspired by desert sunsets, and soft neutral palettes create comfortable spaces that balance practicality with character. The design remains playful without compromising functionality.

Level 8 Changes the Rules

The hotel’s defining attraction is undoubtedly Level 8. Occupying an entire floor of the tower, this ambitious entertainment destination brings together multiple restaurants, cocktail bars, lounges, nightlife venues, and immersive experiences under one roof. Rather than functioning as a conventional hotel dining area, it operates as one of Downtown Los Angeles’ newest social destinations, attracting locals and visitors alike. Every venue has its own identity, creating an atmosphere that constantly evolves throughout the day and night.

From Lobby Drinks to Rooftop Views

Bar Moxy anchors the lobby with a lively atmosphere inspired by roadside American gas stations, serving creative cocktails in surroundings that feel equal parts playful and contemporary. Higher above the city, La Lo La Rooftop introduces a more Mediterranean mood. With Spanish-inspired small plates, cocktails, lush planting, and panoramic views across Los Angeles, it offers a sophisticated finale to the hotel’s energetic journey through the building. Together with AC Hotel’s rooftop offering, it demonstrates how two distinct hotel identities can successfully share one destination.

Why It Works

Moxy Downtown Los Angeles captures a side of the city that feels youthful, creative, and constantly in motion. Yabu Pushelberg has created far more than a lifestyle hotel—it is a celebration of California’s adventurous spirit, interpreted through imaginative interiors, inventive social spaces, and one of the city’s most ambitious food-and-drink concepts. For travelers who see a hotel as part of the destination rather than simply a place to sleep, Moxy delivers energy, personality, and an unmistakably Los Angeles experience.
