Portella – Palma’s Palace of Quiet Wonder
Where History, Art, and Slow Design Meet Under One Roof
A City Palace, Reawakened
From the creative team behind Barcelona’s Casa Bonay, Portella is Palma’s newest boutique beacon, housed in a lovingly restored 17th-century palace that once belonged to Spanish painter Joaquín Torrents Lladó. This 14-room sanctuary is an exercise in restraint and richness—where time, texture, and tradition are honored in every material, line, and light-filled corner.
Design That Deepens Over Time
Portella is built on a foundation of natural beauty—stone, iron, wood, and hand-cut Santanyí tilework echo Palma’s past, while spaces are composed with contemporary softness and soul. Ten of the rooms feature kitchens, with mustard-yellow tiles, creamy limestone walls, and colored glassware by Mallorca’s iconic Gordiola—domestic moments turned visual poetry.
The Artist Lives On
Once a museum and studio for Torrents Lladó, the building still breathes with his presence. The Artist’s Corner, where he once painted, remains a tranquil, light-filled space for reflection. Throughout the hotel, subtle nods to his legacy are woven in, without turning the space into a shrine. This is homage as atmosphere.
Common Spaces That Feel Anything But
Design here is layered and expressive. In the salon, you’ll find an electric blue sofa, antique Moroccan chairs, and an original Joan Miró lithograph—a bold but balanced composition of old and new. Outside, a traditional Mallorcan courtyard, rooftop terrace, and wellness area (carved into the palace’s former pottery ovens) create a rhythm of relaxation and discovery.
DNA Hotels Verdict
Portella is Palma’s new design pilgrimage—a stay that feels like stepping inside an editorial spread, without losing the warmth of lived-in luxury. For travelers who value cultural layering, slow design, and spaces that speak of place, this is Mallorca’s most intimate masterpiece.
