The Rebello Hotel & Spa, Vila Nova de Gaia
Porto’s Industrial Soul, Reimagined in Luxe Style

Where History Meets the Horizon
Perched on a prime riverside location overlooking Porto, The Rebello Hotel & Spa seamlessly blends industrial heritage with modern luxury. Housed in a former kitchen utensil factory and a row of 19th-century warehouses, this boutique gem pays homage to its storied past while offering a vibrant, contemporary experience. Named after the traditional wooden cargo boats, rabelos, which once plied the Douro River, the hotel exudes a timeless connection to Porto’s rich history.

Here, the rhythm of the river feels ever-present. The sweeping views stretch from the iconic Dom Luís I Bridge to the tiled rooftops of Ribeira, casting the hotel in golden light at sunset. It’s a place where Porto’s soul is both the backdrop and the inspiration.

Industrial Heritage with an Artistic Edge
The industrial aesthetic is woven throughout the design, with steel-framed glass partitions, concrete floors, and metal light fixtures setting the tone. The lobby is a feast for the eyes—Edurne Camacho’s large wall tapestries of sirens pair beautifully with wavy mirrors and ceramic mesh by Fig Studio. Salvaged materials from discarded rabelos are reborn as monumental rope planters and chain floor lamps, injecting authenticity and texture into the space.

Art is everywhere, making the hotel feel as much gallery as getaway. Collectible pieces like Josep Maynou’s black-and-white graphic prints, Tomek Sadurski’s plaster abstract works, and Pedro Guimarães’s custom woven metal installations add layers of depth and intrigue. The overall effect is a space that hums with creativity while honoring its working-class roots.

Skyline Dining & Rooftop Drama
Crowning the hotel is an expansive rooftop restaurant and garden terrace with jaw-dropping views of the Douro. Guatemalan marble and dark walls set a dramatic stage for standout design touches like 1940s Italian wall sconces, 1960s Sergio Mazza lighting, and sculptural installations crafted from metal pans by Joana Passos.

As the sun dips behind the city, this rooftop transforms into one of Porto’s most atmospheric dining spots—perfect for long, slow dinners that linger as lights flicker across the riverbanks below.

A Spa of Ancient Inspiration
Below the buzz, serenity awaits. The spa offers a tranquil retreat, its vermilion-hued interiors inspired by the thermal baths of ancient Portus Cale. Walnut-toned daybeds, delicate lighting, and embroidered artwork by Agnieszka Owsiany create a cocoon-like calm, encouraging guests to slow down and reset. A sauna, hammam, and treatment rooms complete this haven of well-being.

Rooms with Character and Calm
The guest rooms channel a chic 1970s vibe, blending earthy serenity with playful flair. Travertine and walnut kitchenettes, custom wall sconces, and statement furniture set the tone, while vibrant details add surprise—the red upholstered ‘Moca’ chair, a green adaptation of the ‘Hygge’ chair by Collector Group, and sculptural ceramics scattered like curated treasures.

Many rooms offer sweeping river views from large windows or private terraces, reminding guests exactly where they are—and why they may never want to leave.

DNA Hotels Verdict
The Rebello Hotel & Spa is more than a place to stay—it’s a journey into Porto’s industrial past, reborn with bold design, luxurious comfort, and a palpable sense of place. A riverside retreat that marries heritage and high style, it’s Porto at its most creative, confident, and captivating.
