Riad Dar Al Dall

The DNA

Dar Al Dall – The House of Shadows in Marrakech’s Medina
A Masterfully Restored Riad Where Light Meets Quiet Craft

Type: boutique hotel, design hotel
Style: riad, townhouse
Vibe: adult-only, quiet, secluded

Crafted Over Seven Years

Nestled in the Kaat Benahid quarter of the Medina, Dar Al Dall—literally “House of Shadows”—has undergone a seven-year restoration led by Trab Design and RecDi8, reopening in May 2024 as part of the This Time Tomorrow. The project revived a 14th-century home with four suites, designed for intentional, ‘digital detox’ living in a sensory-rich setting.

A Riad of Light and Shadow

The design weaves Moroccan tradition with modern artistry. Hand-chiseled zellige, carved plaster, and mosaic floors (inspired by Seville’s Alcázar and Paris’s Institute Suédois) layer pattern over quiet courtyards. Playful light and shadow dance through archways and palm-ringed central courtyard, lending the riad its name and meditative mood.

Suites That Evoke Place

Each of the riad’s five suites is a standalone retreat. Furnished in rich, warm tones—spiced accents, rescued antiques, thoughtful textiles—they nod to Marrakech’s palette and Orientalist romance. The setting is introspective, yet the space feels artfully alive.

Spaces for Pause

The layout centers on a modest 100 m² courtyard with palms, fountain, and interwoven white noise. A hammam, rooftop terrace, and discrete lounges offer quiet reprieve. The outdoor bhou invites slow sipping and stillness—social experience in whispers.

Hospitality That Listens

Dar Al Dall champions curated calm. Guest experiences range from private hammams to courtyard meals or tea mixers at the fountain. It’s a riad where every turn reflects design intention and attentive detail—a modern home, grounded in heritage.

DNA Hotels Verdict

Dar Al Dall is among the most evocative riad transformations in Marrakech—a pocket of retreat carved from history and handcraft. For travelers drawn to reflective quiet, craft-detail, and layered narrative, this is Medina living with heart, depth, and design soul.
