Hotel Sin Nombre, Oaxaca City
A Colonial Canvas Reimagined
Where History Meets Artistic Intention
In the heart of Oaxaca, Hotel Sin Nombre occupies a 17th-century colonial building transformed into a minimalist yet soulful retreat. The project, led by Portuguese architect João Boto Caeiro and envisioned by artist-entrepreneur Elliott Coon (cofounder of mezcal label Gem&Bolt), took six years of meticulous restoration. The result is a boutique hotel that bridges past and present, history and artistry, tradition and reinvention.
Design in White and Light
The hotel’s 22 rooms and shared spaces draw strength from simplicity: whitewashed courtyards, vaulted ceilings, bold arches, and monumental columns. These historic features remain intact but are reinterpreted through a minimalist lens, creating a serene atmosphere animated by light and shadow. Splashes of color—pillows, textiles, handmade furniture—introduce warmth and local craft, infusing the austere palette with vibrancy.
An Ethos of Celebration
Coon describes the project as a natural extension of her mezcal work: “The mezcal was the medium, but the brand is about celebration.” That philosophy now animates Hotel Sin Nombre, where hospitality becomes art and artistry becomes hospitality. The property is as much a cultural gesture as a lodging space, rooted in Oaxaca’s spirit of community and creativity.
A Soulful Sanctuary
From the luminous courtyard to the carefully considered guest rooms, every corner of Hotel Sin Nombre feels intentional—designed not for spectacle, but for reflection, appreciation, and connection. It’s an architectural and emotional pause in the heart of the city, offering guests a deeply immersive sense of place.
DNA Hotels Verdict
Hotel Sin Nombre is Oaxaca reframed: a colonial shell reborn as a sanctuary of light, art, and cultural celebration. Minimalist yet soulful, historic yet contemporary, it embodies the city’s unique ability to hold the past and present in one embrace. For travelers seeking more than comfort—seeking resonance—this is where Oaxaca reveals itself.
