The Society Hotel Hood River takes a 1930s-era schoolhouse and reimagines it as a stylish deluxe hostel and spa. Co-owner Matt Siegel and Portland’s Waechter Architecture worked with Blossom to preserve its historic bones—slate chalkboards from classrooms now serve as elegant reception displays and guestroom welcome signs, connecting the building’s academic past to its welcoming present.
A Communal Heartbeat
This is a hotel designed for connection. There are no TVs—by intent. Instead, guests gather in the café and lobby lounge, a vibrant space of deep green sofas, mustard-tiled fireplaces, and shelves lined with books. The walls are rich charcoal blue, a moody tone that extends to the building’s façade and even the gymnasium-turned-event hall, striking a bold contrast with the sparkling copper roof and burnt-orange landscape outside.
Wellness, Mountain-Style
Built directly into the mountainside, the Sanctuary spa offers yoga and wellness retreats alongside saltwater pools, a sauna, and serene meditation spaces. Communal firepits spark in the night, adding warmth and a gathering point under the stars.

Accommodations range from compact private rooms to triple-tiered bunks with shared restrooms, ideal for solo adventurers or groups. Next door, a new build of 20 cabins—each with an ensuite bathroom—wraps around a bar and spa complex, striking a balance between historic elegance and modern comfort.
