Stamba Hotel – Industrial Grandeur Reimagined
A Brutalist Printing House Turned Cultural Landmark in the Heart of Tbilisi
Printing History Meets Architectural Theatre
Once Georgia’s premier Soviet‑era printing house, Stamba Hotel now stands as a monument to Tbilisi’s creative resurgence. Located adjacent to its sister property, Rooms Hotel Tbilisi, Stamba transforms brutalist bones and industrial volume into a high‑design hospitality experience that is both radical and luxurious.
The design leaves the building’s past visible and celebrated: original printing presses and artifacts have been preserved, repurposed, and integrated into the interiors, while atriums, raw passages, and open courtyards give the structure room to breathe. In a defining architectural move, four floors of the lobby were removed, making way for a suspended glass‑bottom rooftop pool held aloft by concrete pillars—part spectacle, part spatial genius.
Design – Brutalism Softened by Books, Plants, and Warm Light
Despite its scale and concrete framework, Stamba never feels cold. A soaring wall of books, lush greenery, and botanical‑inspired wallpaper by Georgian artist Maya Sumbadze bring texture and narrative. Guest rooms are spacious sanctuaries, featuring high ceilings, exposed brick, plush carpets, leather headboards, and thoughtful details like vintage hi‑fi stereos and floor‑to‑ceiling libraries. Bathrooms are designed as experiences in themselves: red‑glazed tiles, brass fixtures, and gilded 1930s‑style bathtubs deliver a sense of nostalgic opulence rarely seen in industrial spaces.
Culinary & Culture – Café Stamba, Chocolaterie, and Aviator Casino
At the heart of the hotel is Café Stamba, where international comfort food meets Georgian classics, paired with standout local wines. Stamba Chocolaterie provides a sweeter escape, offering artisan chocolates and specialty coffee, while the sophisticated pink cocktail bar delivers intimacy and style in equal measure. For late‑night glamour, the Aviator Casino combines Art Deco elegance with high‑stakes leisure—complete with cigars, shisha, and cinematic interiors.
Atmosphere – Urban Opulence with Cultural Depth
Stamba doesn’t just host travelers—it houses ideas. With its artful reuse of industrial space, layered design language, and deep ties to local culture, it serves as a cultural institution as much as a hotel. From editorial photoshoots to literary readings, the hotel is a canvas for Tbilisi’s emerging creative class.
DNA Hotels Verdict
Stamba Hotel is a daring architectural resurrection, combining brutalist grandeur, tactile luxury, and cultural resonance. A design‑driven homage to print, place, and post‑Soviet rebirth, it offers an experience that is as intellectually engaging as it is visually arresting—a true icon of the New Tbilisi.
