TRUNK (HOTEL) Yoyogi Park

The DNA

TRUNK (HOTEL) Yoyogi Park, Tokyo
Japandi Calm with a Rooftop Pool Above the Trees

Where Architecture Finds Serenity in the City

In the heart of Shibuya—just beyond the neon crossings and fast-paced streets—TRUNK (HOTEL) Yoyogi Park rises as an oasis of calm. Its textured façade of aggregate concrete, softened with wild greenery spilling from balconies, signals an architectural shift: modernist restraint tempered by organic touches.

Inside, the design leans into Japandi minimalism. Flowing curves, raw concrete, copper accents, and abstract artworks shape spaces that feel both crafted and effortless. The copper-lined entrance, discreet and inviting, opens onto an intimate reception of curved wood, designer seating, and Tomorrowland-clad staff. Here, every detail—art books, sculptural objects, woven textiles—tells a story of refinement and warmth.

Guest Rooms as Crafted Retreats

With just 20 guest rooms and five suites, TRUNK offers intimacy at scale. Each room frames either the treetops of Yoyogi Park or the rooftops of Shibuya, combining urban dynamism with natural calm. Design details are deeply considered: Norm Architects’ Ariake chairs, Karimoku’s washi lights, Atelier Yamanami’s abstract artworks, minimalist Arita ceramics, and handcrafted textiles by Hotta Carpet. Copper accents and rattan dividers layer texture, while conical lamps and soft palettes keep the mood serene. The Owner’s Suite pushes further—Kvadrat woven sofas, a freestanding bathtub on a terrace, and even a soundscape by Yuri Suzuki—turning design into atmosphere.

Public Spaces Elevated by Nature and Community

The 6th-floor rooftop is the hotel’s defining gesture: an infinity pool that appears to merge with the park canopy. Taupe loungers frame the water’s edge, while a poolside lounge transforms from breakfast venue to oyster bar by night. Sand-blasted concrete, lush greenery, ocean-hued tiles, and copper seafood displays anchor the experience in tactile luxury.

On the ground floor, Pizzeria e Trattoria L’Ombelico embodies TRUNK’s community spirit. Hand-hammered copper lighting by artist Eiko Miki, oak chairs by Norm Architects, and a clay pizza oven wrapped in copper bring warmth and conviviality. It’s a neighborhood hub dressed in design precision.

DNA Hotels Verdict

TRUNK (HOTEL) Yoyogi Park is Tokyo distilled into architecture: sleek, layered, playful, and deeply contextual. By combining Japandi minimalism with rooftop spectacle, curated interiors, and neighborhood vibrancy, it sets a new standard for boutique hospitality in the city. For travelers seeking intimacy without retreating from urban life, TRUNK offers a rare balance—Shibuya energy framed through design and serenity.
