Tuba Club – Marseille’s Hidden Gem for Sun, Sea, and Style
Sun, Sea, and Creative Calm
A Diving Club Reinvented
Perched at the edge of Les Goudes, Marseille’s “end-of-the-world” seaside village, Tuba Club breathes new life into a building once home to a 1960s scuba diving school frequented by Jacques Mayol. Revived in July 2020 by local friends Grégory Gassa and Fabrice Denizot, with design by childhood friend Marion Mailaender, Tuba is a soulful blend of heritage, community, and Mediterranean spirit.
Rooms That Sing of the Sea
With just five cabanon-style rooms and three new villa suites, each space evokes fishermen’s huts reinterpreted for modern sensibility. Interiors are minimal yet richly textured—with sisal floors, marine plywood, vintage lighting, and artful details by Southway Studio. Yellow-striped loungers sit just meters from the crystal-clear water.
Mediterranean Cuisine with Calm
Under Chef Sylvain Roucayrol (joined by Paul‑Henri Bayart in 2023), the restaurant serves shared plates rooted in fish, Provence, and Corsican flavors. Signature dishes include Linguini Tuba with clams and fish roe, followed by playful cocktails like the Tuba Libre and Sormioule, all enjoyed barefoot at sea-level tables.
Sun-Drenched Slow Living
Days here unfold naturally: paddleboarding, seaside swims off the rocks, yoga, petanque, or lounging under the sun in striped yellow chairs. Tuba’s ethos: relaxed, informal, and deeply connected to nature. Access is simple—no shoes required.
An Artistic Hideaway
Tuba doubles as a creative hub with murals and installations by Southway Studio, artist residencies, and architectural touches inspired by local Marseille artists. The minimalist design echoes Le Corbusier’s Cabanon and local fishermen’s architecture, turning the hotel into a “cabin for creators.”
DNA Hotels Verdict
Tuba Club isn’t just a hotel—it’s Marseille distilled: artful, sea-kissed, and effortlessly stylish. A former dive club reborn as a boutique retreat for friends, creatives, and lovers of slow summers. Ideal for travelers craving simple luxury, salty air, and a place where you arrive as a guest—and leave as a friend.
