Vila Foz Hotel & Spa

The DNA

Vila Foz Hotel & Spa, Porto, Portugal
Belle Époque Elegance on Porto’s Atlantic Coast

Why DNA Hotels Loves It

● A beautifully restored nineteenth-century seaside villa paired with a contemporary architectural extension by renowned designer Nini Andrade Silva.
● Michelin-starred dining, an intimate spa, and refined interiors that effortlessly balance historic grandeur with modern sophistication.
● An exceptional location in elegant Foz do Douro, where Porto meets the Atlantic Ocean.

A Grand Villa by the Sea

Vila Foz captures a different side of Porto. Far from the city’s bustling historic centre, this beautifully restored nineteenth-century mansion stands along the Atlantic promenade in Foz do Douro, a neighbourhood once lined with the grand residences of Porto’s merchant families. Architect Miguel Cardoso carefully restored the villa while Nini Andrade Silva introduced a contemporary extension that feels quietly confident rather than competing with its historic neighbour. Old and new never compete. They simply complete one another.

Restoration with Remarkable Restraint

The villa’s historic character has been preserved with extraordinary care. Ornate stucco ceilings, gilded pilasters, carved fireplaces, Portuguese tiles, timber floors, sweeping staircases, and decorative ironwork have all been painstakingly restored. Contemporary interventions introduce flowing forms, onyx stone, travertine, soft greens, warm metallic accents, and bespoke furniture, creating interiors that feel elegant without becoming formal. Everything feels beautifully considered. History remains visible.

Rooms Facing the Atlantic

The sixty-eight guestrooms are divided between the Manor House and the contemporary wing. Rooms within the historic villa retain original architectural features and period detailing, while those in the newer building adopt a softer contemporary language inspired by the movement of the sea. Curved timber headboards, custom furnishings, onyx-clad bathrooms, generous proportions, and balconies overlooking the Atlantic create interiors that are both luxurious and deeply relaxing. Luxury feels calm. Never excessive.

Wellness and Fine Dining

Vila Foz offers one of Porto’s most complete luxury experiences. The Michelin-starred Vila Foz Restaurant showcases contemporary Portuguese cuisine beneath restored gilded ceilings, while Flor de Lis serves more relaxed regional classics. In the garden, an intimate spa combines an indoor pool, sauna, Turkish bath, treatment rooms, and quiet relaxation spaces that perfectly complement the slower rhythm of the coastline. The Atlantic sets the pace. The hotel follows naturally.

Life in Foz do Douro

Foz has long been Porto’s most elegant seaside neighbourhood. Wide promenades, sandy beaches, historic villas, seafood restaurants, and ocean sunsets create a setting that feels worlds away from the city’s narrow medieval streets, despite being just twenty minutes from the historic centre. Complimentary bicycles encourage guests to explore the coastline at an unhurried pace. Porto remains close. The ocean feels closer.

Why It Works

Vila Foz Hotel & Spa succeeds because it demonstrates how heritage and contemporary design can elevate one another. Exceptional restoration, thoughtful interiors, outstanding cuisine, and a privileged Atlantic setting create a hotel that feels timeless rather than fashionable. It is one of Portugal’s finest examples of understated coastal luxury.
