A Cultural Tapestry, Woven Into Every Wall

In Madrid’s legendary Literary Quarter, where Cervantes once wandered and Lope de Vega penned verse, a new chapter unfolds. Casa de las Artes, part of the Meliá Collection, transforms four historic buildings into a boutique haven that pays homage to the seven classical fine arts—architecture, sculpture, painting, music, poetry, dance, and cinema. But this is no themed concept hotel. It’s a lived-in, lovingly crafted ode to artistry in all forms.

Design That Reads Like a Poem

Architect Álvaro Sans and interior designer Adriana Sans of ASAH Studios have reimagined the interiors with reverence and restraint. Think: original terracotta moldings, hand-restored stained glass, and quiet layers of texture and color. The palette leans into earthy umbers, mustard, and warm neutrals, punctuated by thoughtful mid-century modern touches. A central gallery now unites the once-disparate buildings into a seamless visual journey, linking lounges, a cinema, a serene wellness area, and a book-lined library under one elegant roof.

Every Room a Composition

No detail at Casa de las Artes is left untouched by narrative. Each of the 137 rooms invites quiet reflection: above the beds, Gustave Doré’s Don Quixote etchings echo the neighborhood’s literary lineage. Suites elevate the experience with marble-lined bathrooms, velvet textures, and terraces that open to sunlit courtyards—some even boasting al fresco bathtubs. Books on music, poetry, dance, and design are tucked throughout, whispering for guests to slow down and stay curious.

Dining as Performance

At Maché, the hotel’s signature restaurant, gastronomy becomes theatre. Set inside a restored railway association hall, this soaring space pairs historic stained-glass windows and vintage chandeliers with modern Mediterranean cuisine. Dishes like roast chicken croquettes, turbot with pilpil, and Galician beef tataki arrive like perfectly timed lines in a play—each one familiar, yet elevated. The cocktails? Pure poetry in a glass.

An Artistic Experience, Floor to Ceiling

Beyond the rooms and restaurant, the hotel offers a holistic immersion in the arts. A private 1950s-inspired cinema screens classics and indie gems. The library is made for long mornings with coffee and quiet thought. Downstairs, the wellness area unfolds with a thermal pool, sauna, and steam room—plus a fitness space complete with a ballet barre, nodding gently to the grace of movement.

DNA Hotels Verdict

Casa de las Artes is more than a boutique hotel—it’s a cultural invitation. An architectural love letter to Madrid’s creative spirit, written in stained glass and mid-century wood. For travelers who seek beauty beyond aesthetics, meaning behind design, and atmosphere with soul, this is where the story begins.
