Domes Novos Santorini, Tholos, Santorini, Greece
A Sculptural Island Retreat Where Terracotta Architecture Reimagines Cycladic Luxury
Why DNA Hotels Loves It
● A bold architectural departure from Santorini’s whitewashed vernacular, designed by Kiros Pagkalidis Architects using volcanic stone and earthy terracotta tones.
● Fifty suites and two private villas, each with its own pool and terrace overlooking vineyards and the Aegean Sea.
● A design-led retreat where architecture, landscape, wellness, and local culture are seamlessly connected.
A Different Vision of Santorini
Domes Novos looks beyond the familiar image of Santorini. Located in the quieter Tholos region on the island’s north-western coast, the resort deliberately distances itself from the crowded caldera edge. Instead of repeating the traditional Cycladic vocabulary, the architecture draws inspiration from the volcanic landscape itself, introducing sculptural forms that feel grounded, contemporary, and deeply connected to their surroundings. The island feels familiar. The architecture offers an entirely new perspective.
Geometry Rooted in the Landscape
Designed by Kiros Pagkalidis Architects, the resort replaces soft curves with bold geometric volumes. Terracotta walls, volcanic stone, blonde oak, and subtle tones of white and ash grey create a restrained material palette that reflects the colours of Santorini’s soil rather than its postcard imagery. Interior designer Olivia Siskou complements the architecture with minimal furnishings and tactile natural materials, allowing light, texture, and landscape to define each space. Nothing competes with the setting. Everything enhances it.
Private Suites Designed for Space
The resort offers 50 spacious suites and two villas, each conceived as an independent retreat. Private terraces, individual pools, generous living areas, and uninterrupted views across vineyards and the Aegean create a remarkable sense of openness. The interiors remain intentionally understated, balancing clean architectural lines with warm natural textures that encourage complete relaxation. Luxury is expressed through privacy. Space becomes the ultimate indulgence.
Wellness Inspired by the Island
At Domes Novos, wellness extends far beyond the spa. The Soma Spa combines traditional Greek rituals with contemporary treatments using volcanic minerals and native botanicals, while an underground pool, modern fitness studio, yoga sessions, and meditation among the vineyard gardens encourage a slower connection with the landscape. The experience feels restorative. Nature quietly leads the way.
A Celebration of Santorini
The culinary programme embraces the same philosophy of local immersion. At Vatanee, Head Chef Dionysis Anastopoulos reinterprets Greek traditions through seasonal ingredients inspired by both land and sea. Vineyard visits, wine tastings, cooking classes, and encounters with local producers invite guests to experience Santorini beyond its famous viewpoints. The destination becomes more than scenery. Its culture becomes part of the stay.
Why It Works
Domes Novos succeeds because it confidently reimagines what a Santorini hotel can be. Through sculptural architecture, carefully curated interiors, meaningful wellness, and a genuine connection to the island’s landscape and traditions, it creates a contemporary retreat that feels rooted rather than replicated. It is Santorini viewed through an entirely new architectural lens.
