The Dwell Hotel

The DNA

The Dwell Hotel | Chattanooga, Tennessee | USA
Playful mid-century glamour inside one of Chattanooga’s most characterful historic buildings.

Why DNA Hotels Loves It

● A joyful reinvention of a 1909 landmark where historic architecture meets bold mid-century modern design.
● Just 16 individually designed rooms, each bursting with vintage character, vibrant colours and unmistakable personality.
● One of Chattanooga’s original design hotels, helping shape the city’s growing creative and culinary scene.

Historic Bones, Retro Soul

The Dwell Hotel occupies a beautifully restored brick-and-limestone building that has welcomed travellers since 1909. Over the decades it has served many lives, but today it has found its most distinctive identity yet. Under the vision of owner Seija Ojanpera, the former Stone Fort Inn has become Chattanooga’s first true boutique hotel, preserving its historic architecture while embracing an exuberant interpretation of mid-century design. The result feels both nostalgic and refreshingly original.

Mid-Century with a Twist

Designed by Seija Ojanpera together with Laurel Creager, the interiors celebrate the optimism and glamour of the 1950s, 60s and 70s without ever slipping into cliché. Bold wallpapers, jewel-toned velvets, brass details, vintage furnishings and striking artwork fill every room with personality, while exposed brick, rustic timber floors and original architectural features quietly reference the building’s long history. Every corner feels thoughtfully composed, playful and entirely individual.

Sixteen Rooms, Sixteen Personalities

No two guestrooms are alike. Some embrace lush botanical prints, others geometric patterns or warm desert-inspired palettes, but each tells its own design story through carefully sourced vintage furniture, statement lighting and luxurious contemporary comforts. Rain showers, freestanding soaking tubs, plush robes and locally roasted coffee complete spaces that feel more like beautifully curated apartments than conventional hotel rooms. Several suites even feature fireplaces, adding another layer of intimacy to the experience.

The Creative Living Room of Chattanooga

The Dwell has become as much a neighbourhood gathering place as a boutique hotel. Matilda Midnight, the hotel’s atmospheric cocktail bar, continues the retro aesthetic with craft cocktails, inventive small plates and a lively social atmosphere that attracts locals as readily as hotel guests. Surrounded by Chattanooga’s growing collection of galleries, independent shops, breweries and restaurants, The Dwell perfectly captures the city’s creative revival—warm Southern hospitality wrapped in unapologetically colourful mid-century style.
