Hotel Emma

The DNA

Hotel Emma – San Antonio, Texas
A magnificent brewery reborn as one of America’s most characterful design hotels.

Why DNA Hotels Loves It

● A breathtaking transformation of the 1894 Pearl Brewery, where Roman and Williams preserved the building’s industrial soul while creating one of Texas’ finest boutique hotels.
● A cultural landmark at the heart of San Antonio’s vibrant Pearl District, where design, gastronomy and local life come together.
● Richly layered interiors filled with original brewery machinery, soaring spaces, bespoke furnishings and an unforgettable sense of history.

From Brewery to Boutique Icon

Few adaptive reuse projects are as spectacular as Hotel Emma. Housed within the former Pearl Brewery, founded in the late nineteenth century, the hotel embraces its industrial heritage rather than concealing it. Massive steel beams, exposed brickwork, original brewing equipment and towering ceilings remain proudly on display, creating a setting where every corner tells the story of San Antonio’s brewing past. Today, that history forms the backdrop to one of the city’s most distinctive luxury hotels.

Industrial Heritage Meets Refined Design

New York design studio Roman and Williams approached the restoration with their signature theatrical sensibility, layering warm leather, dark timber, aged bronze, vintage rugs and custom-made furniture around the brewery’s monumental architecture. Rather than softening the building’s rugged character, they celebrated it, allowing fermentation tanks, concrete structures and original industrial details to become sculptural centrepieces. The result feels simultaneously grand, intimate and unmistakably Texan.

Rooms with Character

The 146 guestrooms and seven suites continue the dialogue between past and present. Chipped plaster walls, handcrafted white oak furniture, caramel leather seating and Spanish porcelain create spaces that feel authentic rather than overly polished. Freestanding clawfoot bathtubs, Dos Carolinas seersucker robes and thoughtfully curated in-room ‘iceboxes’ stocked with gourmet treats add personality instead of predictable luxury. Many rooms enjoy views across the River Walk or the revitalised Pearl District, placing guests at the centre of one of San Antonio’s most exciting neighbourhoods.

The Social Heart of Pearl

Hotel Emma is as much a gathering place as it is a hotel. Sternewirth, the atmospheric bar housed beneath soaring vaulted ceilings in the former fermentation cellars, has become one of San Antonio’s favourite meeting places, while Supper celebrates seasonal American cooking rooted in Texas produce. Larder, the hotel’s gourmet market, and a dedicated culinary concierge further reinforce the property’s deep connection with food and local culture. Surrounded by acclaimed restaurants, weekly farmers’ markets, independent boutiques and the Culinary Institute of America, Hotel Emma anchors a neighbourhood that has become one of Texas’ most vibrant culinary destinations.
