The Goodtime Hotel, Miami Beach, Florida
A Pastel-Coloured Playground Where Art Deco Nostalgia Meets Modern Miami
Why DNA Hotels Loves It
● Pharrell Williams and David Grutman created a joyful South Beach escape brought to life by architect Morris Adjmi, designer Ken Fulk, and landscape architect Raymond Jungles.
● Art Deco references, tropical murals, candy-coloured interiors, and playful custom details give the hotel an identity that feels theatrical without losing its sense of place.
● A vast pool club, Mediterranean dining, and sociable public spaces capture the energy of Miami while offering moments of genuine escapism.
A New Kind of South Beach Fantasy
The Goodtime Hotel occupies an entire block of Washington Avenue, only a short walk from the beach. Its curved pink-and-white façade, corrugated surfaces, and Deco-inspired plasterwork immediately establish the mood. Conceived by musician Pharrell Williams and hospitality entrepreneur David Grutman, the hotel was designed as a complete escape from everyday life. Everything feels optimistic. Nothing takes itself too seriously.
Nostalgia Reimagined
Architect Morris Adjmi gives the building a contemporary interpretation of Miami Beach’s architectural language. Inside, Ken Fulk draws inspiration from glamorous mid-century resorts in Palm Beach, Havana, and Acapulco. Hand-painted hothouse murals, scalloped furniture, striped awnings, glossy peach finishes, and soft greens create interiors that feel familiar yet entirely imagined. The result is cinematic. But never cold. Every space is designed to lift the mood.
Rooms with a Playful Side
The 266 guestrooms continue the hotel’s colourful narrative on a more intimate scale. Custom bedding, bespoke drapery, leopard-print benches, tiled bathrooms, and signature pink rotary telephones bring personality to compact spaces. East-facing rooms overlook the Atlantic, while those facing west frame sunsets across Biscayne Bay. Even the corridors become part of the story. Soft pink lighting, reflective surfaces, and carpets patterned with mock wet footprints turn the journey to the room into another playful design gesture.
A Library for Modern Miami
Away from the pool, the library offers a quieter interpretation of the hotel’s social spirit. Glossy peach tones, natural oak, layered seating, and carefully arranged objects create a room designed for coffee, cocktails, conversation, or informal work. It feels more like a glamorous private salon than a conventional hotel lounge. The atmosphere remains sociable. Just at a gentler pace.
Life Around Strawberry Moon
The third-floor pool deck is the hotel’s undisputed centrepiece. Designed as a tropical world of palms, striped cabanas, pastel tiling, and sculptural furniture, it forms part of Strawberry Moon, the hotel’s Mediterranean restaurant and expansive pool club. Raymond Jungles’ landscaping softens the architecture, transforming the rooftop into a lush urban retreat. By day, the mood is relaxed. By night, it becomes unmistakably Miami. The transition feels effortless.
Why It Works
The Goodtime Hotel succeeds because every element contributes to the same clear idea: hospitality should feel joyful. Morris Adjmi’s architecture, Ken Fulk’s nostalgic interiors, and Raymond Jungles’ tropical landscaping create a world that is playful, glamorous, and immediately transporting. It may be designed for a good time, but beneath the colour and spectacle lies a remarkably coherent piece of contemporary hotel design.
