Minimalism, Singapore-Style
Set within a row of six beautifully restored conservation shophouses on historic Mosque Street, Hotel Mono flips the script on traditional boutique hospitality. Rather than leaning into nostalgia, this 46-room hideaway by Spacedge Designs takes a bold, minimalist approach—think monochrome palettes, clean architectural lines, and surprising design ingenuity.
Every inch of the hotel’s design is a tribute to form meets function. Whitewashed walls and jet-black accents form the visual language, punctuated by a sleek custom black metal bar that weaves through each room. It’s lighting, wardrobe, sculpture—and statement—rolled into one.
A Graphic Play on Contrast
No two rooms are alike, thanks to the quirks and constraints of the original architecture, and that’s part of the charm. Arched windows, exposed beams, and unique floor plans add unexpected character. Design icons like Eero Aarnio’s Ball Chair make appearances—reimagined in black to suit the aesthetic—with thoughtful nods to both past and future.
Despite its edgy vibe, Hotel Mono doesn’t feel cold or austere. There’s a surprising warmth to the precision, a sense of play in the restraint. The staff lean casual and welcoming, and the location couldn’t be more central: Chinatown MRT is just around the corner, and the city’s buzziest bars, hawker stalls, and galleries are right on your doorstep.
DNA Hotels Verdict
Hotel Mono is for design lovers, city explorers, and travelers who want their hotel to feel like a concept as much as a basecamp. It’s striking, stylish, and refreshingly different—a quiet rebel in Singapore’s cultural core that proves minimal doesn’t have to mean minimal impact.
