NH Collection Ibiza | Ibiza Town, Spain
Yacht-inspired design and grown-up glamour between Ibiza’s marina and Dalt Vila

Why DNA Hotels Loves It

● Baranowitz + Kronenberg translate Ibiza’s maritime identity into 38 beautifully restrained rooms, combining stripped timber, polished stainless steel, crisp fabrics, and abundant Mediterranean light.
● Its former life as Sir Joan gives the hotel considerably more design pedigree and personality than the NH Collection name might initially suggest.
● The location puts two very different Ibizas within easy reach: the yachts and nightlife of the marina on one side, and the historic streets of Dalt Vila on the other.

From Sir Joan to NH Collection

Some hotel transformations are more dramatic than others. Before becoming NH Collection Ibiza, this intimate 38-room property was Sir Joan, the Balearic member of the design-conscious Sir Hotels collection. Fortunately, much of what made Sir Joan interesting remains. The building, designed by Ibiza-based Ribas & Ribas, sits prominently between the marina and Ibiza Town, while interiors by Baranowitz + Kronenberg were conceived around the island’s relationship with the sea. Not the rustic, barefoot Ibiza of fincas and weathered stone. This is yacht Ibiza.

A Different Kind of Nautical

Forget anchors and blue-and-white stripes. Baranowitz + Kronenberg’s interpretation of maritime design is far more sophisticated. Stripped wooden floors recall yacht decking. Polished stainless-steel wall panels introduce reflections and movement. Clean architectural lines, pale surfaces, and large windows capture the brightness of the Mediterranean. The designers originally looked towards Ibiza’s free-spirited creative communities too, creating interiors that combine nautical precision with something softer and more relaxed. It works particularly well because the references never become literal.

Only 38 Rooms

For a hotel carrying an international chain name, NH Collection Ibiza is surprisingly intimate. There are just 38 rooms and suites. Natural light is central to their appeal, while timber, stainless steel, contemporary furniture, and crisp bedding maintain the understated yacht-inspired character. Balconies extend the rooms outdoors, connecting them with Ibiza’s light and urban landscape. At the top end, the penthouses take things considerably further, with expansive wraparound terraces and panoramic views across the town. This is urban resort living rather than secluded island escape.

Poolside Ibiza

Downstairs, the atmosphere becomes more social. The outdoor pool sits alongside communal spaces originally conceived with something of a private members’ club feel — polished enough for cocktails, relaxed enough for an afternoon that accidentally becomes evening. There are outdoor fitness facilities, in-room massages, and experiences including boat hire, but this isn’t a resort designed to keep you captive. That would rather miss the point of its location. Ibiza Town is outside the door.

Dinner with a Pulse

The current food and drink offering pushes the hotel towards the more theatrical side of contemporary Ibiza. SLVJ brings a high-energy interpretation of Japanese cuisine where dinner, music, and performance deliberately overlap. Rhino Bar takes things down a notch beside the pool, pairing cocktails with a more casual selection of dishes. Arrogante heads to Italy, adding pizza, pasta, and a deliberately playful atmosphere to the mix. These aren’t hushed hotel dining rooms. They reflect the extrovert Ibiza happening beyond the lobby.

Between Marina and Dalt Vila

Location may ultimately be NH Collection Ibiza’s greatest luxury. Look one way and there is the marina, yachts, restaurants, and the island’s increasingly polished international scene. Look the other and Dalt Vila rises above Ibiza Town, its fortified walls enclosing centuries of history. Talamanca beach is within easy reach, as is the nightlife for which the island became famous. Yet once back inside, the hotel feels surprisingly composed. That contrast matters.

Why It Works

Don’t let the NH Collection badge fool you into expecting a conventional five-star city hotel. Underneath it is Sir Joan, and the design DNA of Baranowitz + Kronenberg remains the reason this hotel belongs on DNA Hotels. Their yacht-inspired interiors capture a particular side of Ibiza — cosmopolitan, maritime, polished, and urban — without resorting to nautical cliché. Add just 38 rooms, a pool, a lively restaurant scene, and a position between the marina and Dalt Vila, and you have something increasingly rare on the island: a small design hotel that lets you participate in Ibiza’s energy without having to sleep in the middle of the party.
