Original Sokos Hotel Tripla – Helsinki, Finland
Urban Buzz Below, Nordic Calm Above

Why DNA Hotels Loves It

● One of Finland’s largest hotels, transformed by design studio Fyra into a surprisingly intimate and residential-feeling retreat.
● Scandinavian minimalism, natural materials, and carefully curated art create a calm sanctuary above Helsinki’s busiest transport hub.
● A fascinating example of how thoughtful design can bring warmth, character, and human scale to a large urban hotel.

A New Side of Helsinki

Located in the heart of Pasila, Helsinki’s fast-evolving urban district, Original Sokos Hotel Tripla occupies the upper floors of the vast Tripla development. While the scale of the complex below is impressive, the hotel itself takes a very different approach. Rather than celebrating size, it focuses on atmosphere. Designed by Helsinki-based interior studio Fyra, the hotel was conceived as a peaceful counterpoint to the movement and energy surrounding it. Above the trains, shops, restaurants, and offices, guests discover a calm and surprisingly residential environment that feels removed from the city’s constant motion. It is less about the destination itself and more about how the design transforms the experience of being there.

Scandinavian Design on a Human Scale

Creating intimacy inside a 430-room hotel is no small challenge. Fyra’s solution was to embrace the principles of Scandinavian design: simplicity, natural materials, generous light, and spaces designed around comfort rather than spectacle. The lobby immediately sets the tone. Large windows flood the space with daylight, while greenery, soft seating, communal tables, and carefully considered lighting create an atmosphere closer to a contemporary living room than a traditional hotel reception. It is a place designed for lingering rather than simply passing through. Throughout the hotel, pale woods, stone surfaces, tactile fabrics, and a restrained palette create a sense of quiet cohesion. Nothing feels excessive. Everything feels considered.

Rooms Designed for Calm

The guestrooms continue the same design philosophy. Spacious entrance areas, uncluttered layouts, and floor-to-ceiling windows create an atmosphere of openness and ease. The interiors act almost as a blank canvas, allowing natural light, city views, and carefully selected materials to take centre stage. The aesthetic is unmistakably Nordic: functional without feeling cold, minimalist without feeling sparse. Natural textures soften clean architectural lines, while thoughtful details ensure comfort remains at the forefront. The suites add another layer of refinement with canopy beds, glass-enclosed wardrobes, in-room saunas, and warm timber-clad living areas that feel more like contemporary Helsinki apartments than hotel accommodations.

Art as Part of Everyday Life

Art plays an important role throughout the property. Rather than functioning as decoration, it brings personality and energy to the otherwise restrained interiors. Collaborations with local artists introduce colour, character, and a distinctly Helsinki identity. The lobby’s rotating gallery wall showcases works by graffiti and street artists, while additional pieces appear throughout public spaces, meeting areas, and corridors. This integration of art gives the hotel a lived-in quality that reinforces its residential atmosphere. The result feels less corporate and more personal — a reflection of Helsinki’s creative culture rather than a generic international hotel environment.

The Comfort of Contemporary Living

Beyond its design credentials, Tripla is built around the realities of modern travel. Guests have access to restaurants, bars, wellness facilities, and meeting spaces, all seamlessly integrated into the hotel experience. A Finnish sauna offers a traditional way to unwind after a day in the city, while the restaurant and social spaces maintain the same design language found throughout the property: warm, functional, and welcoming. Despite the activity surrounding the development, the hotel consistently succeeds in creating moments of calm — perhaps its most impressive achievement.

A Different Perspective on Helsinki

Original Sokos Hotel Tripla demonstrates that large-scale hospitality does not have to feel anonymous. Through thoughtful architecture, Scandinavian restraint, and a strong emphasis on art and atmosphere, the hotel creates a genuinely human experience within one of Helsinki’s most ambitious urban developments. For travellers who appreciate design that prioritises comfort, simplicity, and everyday beauty, Tripla offers a fresh perspective on contemporary Finnish hospitality — proving that even a 430-room hotel can feel remarkably personal.
