PARKROYAL COLLECTION Pickering, Singapore
WOHA’s Landmark Hotel Where Tropical Nature Becomes Architecture
Why DNA Hotels Loves It
● A groundbreaking “hotel-in-a-garden” by WOHA that redefined sustainable high-rise hospitality through architecture rather than technology alone.
● More than 15,000 square metres of sky gardens, waterfalls, terraces, and tropical planting integrated directly into the building’s design.
● One of Singapore’s most iconic contemporary hotels, demonstrating how luxury, biodiversity, and urban density can exist in perfect harmony.
A New Vision for the Tropical City
PARKROYAL COLLECTION Pickering changed the conversation about urban hotels. Standing between Chinatown, Clarke Quay, and Hong Lim Park, the building was conceived by Singapore architects WOHA as an extension of the city’s landscape rather than another glass tower. Instead of occupying its site, it multiplies it vertically, introducing twice the site’s footprint in lush planting that climbs through the architecture. Nature becomes the defining feature. The building feels alive.
Architecture That Grows
The sculptural podium draws inspiration from mountain landscapes, terraced rice fields, and weathered rock formations. Curving concrete forms support dramatic sky gardens, planted valleys, waterfalls, and reflecting pools that weave through the building from street level to rooftop. Hanging vines soften the façades, while open-air corridors, naturally ventilated public spaces, and generous planting reduce the need for mechanical cooling and reconnect guests with Singapore’s tropical climate. Nothing feels applied. The landscape is the architecture.
Rooms Framed by Greenery
The 367 guestrooms adopt a calmer architectural language. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame views across Hong Lim Park, Chinatown, or the hotel’s own elevated gardens, while bespoke furnishings, natural materials, and restrained interiors create peaceful spaces that allow the surrounding landscape to take centre stage. Throughout the hotel, daylight remains a constant companion. Luxury feels effortless. The views shape the experience.
Sustainability by Design
Environmental performance is embedded into every aspect of the building. Rainwater harvesting irrigates the extensive planting, photovoltaic panels help power the sky gardens, and carefully designed shading systems improve energy efficiency while supporting biodiversity throughout the development. Awarded Singapore’s highest Green Mark Platinum certification, the hotel remains one of the world’s defining examples of biophilic high-rise architecture. Innovation feels purposeful. Sustainability becomes beautiful.
An Urban Resort
The elevated recreation deck continues the dialogue between architecture and landscape. Infinity pools, garden walkways, birdcage-inspired cabanas, and generous outdoor terraces create a resort atmosphere above the city, while Lime restaurant serves contemporary Southeast Asian cuisine overlooking the surrounding greenery. Despite its central location, the hotel offers an experience that feels remarkably tranquil. The city remains visible. Nature shapes every moment.
Why It Works
PARKROYAL COLLECTION Pickering succeeds because it proves that environmental responsibility can inspire extraordinary architecture. Through WOHA’s visionary design, lush tropical landscapes, and seamless integration of sustainability into every aspect of the building, it has become one of Singapore’s defining architectural landmarks—and one of the world’s most influential examples of nature-led hospitality.
