Pensão Favorita

The DNA

Pensão Favorita, Porto, Portugal
A Bohemian Townhouse with Vintage Soul and Contemporary Style

Why DNA Hotels Loves It

● A beautifully restored Portuguese townhouse where vintage furniture and contemporary design exist in perfect balance.
● Thoughtful interiors by architect Nuno Sottomayor and designer Sam Baron that feel creative, personal, and effortlessly relaxed.
● Just twelve individually designed rooms in Porto’s artistic quarter, creating an intimate stay with genuine local character.

A House with Creative Spirit

Pensão Favorita captures a different side of Porto. Rather than grand gestures or formal luxury, this small boutique hotel embraces the warmth of a private home. Housed within a traditional townhouse in the city’s historic centre, the building has been carefully transformed by architect Nuno Sottomayor, while French designer Sam Baron layered the interiors with vintage finds, contemporary furniture, and subtle artistic touches. The result feels authentic. Almost effortlessly so.

Quiet Design, Lasting Character

The interiors rely on restraint rather than decoration. Vintage furniture sits comfortably beside contemporary pieces, while many objects are painted in the same colours as their surroundings, allowing craftsmanship to reveal itself gradually. A carved clock, sculptural lighting, patterned tiles, and carefully selected artworks introduce moments of surprise without disturbing the calm composition. Nothing competes for attention. Everything belongs.

Twelve Rooms, Twelve Personalities

Each of the hotel’s twelve guestrooms has its own identity. Seven rooms occupy the original townhouse, while five are located in the quieter garden annex. Natural light, generous proportions, comfortable lounge areas, and carefully chosen furnishings create spaces that feel individual rather than standardized. Several rooms feature balconies overlooking the surrounding streets, reinforcing the feeling of staying in a real Porto neighbourhood rather than a tourist district. The atmosphere is relaxed. Yet thoughtfully curated.

A Garden Hidden in the City

The social spaces are as inviting as the guestrooms. The small bar serves drinks and light meals throughout the day, while the garden terrace offers a peaceful setting beneath mature greenery—a rare luxury in the middle of Porto. Reception also doubles as a showcase for local designers and makers, subtly connecting the hotel with the city’s creative community. Hospitality here feels natural. Never rehearsed.

At Home in Porto

Located in the artistic district surrounding Rua Miguel Bombarda, Pensão Favorita places galleries, cafés, independent boutiques, and restaurants within easy walking distance. The historic centre, Livraria Lello, Clérigos Tower, and the Douro waterfront are all close enough to explore on foot before returning to the hotel’s quieter residential atmosphere. It is Porto at its most genuine. Creative, welcoming, and unpretentious.

Why It Works

Pensão Favorita succeeds because it understands that personality cannot be manufactured. By combining historic architecture, thoughtful design, vintage furnishings, and a relaxed residential atmosphere, it creates one of Porto’s most charming boutique stays—a place where good design feels completely at ease.
