The Slow, Canggu, Bali, Indonesia
A Creative Sanctuary Where Tropical Brutalism, Contemporary Art, and Slow Living Come Together
Why DNA Hotels Loves It
● A beautifully realised vision by George and Cisco Gorrow, combining design, art, music, and hospitality into one immersive experience.
● Tropical brutalist architecture that balances raw materials with lush greenery, natural light, and handcrafted Balinese craftsmanship.
● More than a hotel, The Slow functions as a cultural hub with an acclaimed restaurant, contemporary gallery, and carefully curated soundtrack.
Designed to Slow You Down
Just moments from Canggu’s beaches, The Slow offers an entirely different rhythm from Bali’s larger resorts. Created by George Gorrow, co-founder of Ksubi, and Cisco Gorrow, the boutique hotel was conceived around the idea that travel should encourage presence rather than distraction. Every detail has been carefully considered to create an environment where guests naturally slow their pace. Nothing feels hurried. Everything feels intentional.
Tropical Brutalism
The architecture is both bold and quietly calming. Concrete, reclaimed timber, native hardwoods, volcanic stone, and expansive glass surfaces define what the designers describe as tropical brutalism. Sunlight filters through lush planting while ocean breezes move freely between the interiors, softening the building’s sculptural forms and creating spaces that feel connected to nature. Raw materials become elegant. Nature completes the design.
Where Art Meets Music
Creativity is woven into every aspect of daily life. Original contemporary artworks from the Gorrows’ private collection fill the hotel, while Room 13 combines café, gallery, and exhibition space into a constantly evolving cultural destination. Throughout the building, the carefully curated sounds of Reverberation Radio provide an atmospheric soundtrack that feels inseparable from the architecture itself. Art is everywhere. Music gives it rhythm.
Food with the Same Philosophy
The restaurant follows the same thoughtful approach as the interiors. Seasonal ingredients, local produce, wood-fired cooking, and globally inspired flavours define a menu created with simplicity and quality at its core. Breakfast lingers into the afternoon, dinners unfold slowly, and every meal reflects the hotel’s belief that eating should be experienced rather than rushed. The cuisine feels honest and the atmosphere invites lingering.
The Creative Heart of Canggu
The Slow sits at the intersection of Bali’s surf culture and creative community. Outside, Canggu offers beaches, cafés, boutiques, galleries, and an ever-changing cultural scene. Inside, the hotel provides a welcome counterbalance—a calm retreat where architecture, design, and hospitality encourage guests to disconnect from noise and reconnect with the present moment. The energy stays outside. The calm begins within.
Why It Works
The Slow succeeds because it treats hospitality as a complete creative experience. Architecture, interiors, music, food, and contemporary art are never presented as separate elements but as parts of one carefully composed whole. The result is one of Bali’s most influential boutique hotels—a place where thoughtful design genuinely changes the pace of everyday life.
