A New Chapter for Sifnos
Perched on a hillside overlooking the Aegean, Stamna Sifnos offers a quieter, more considered vision of Greek island hospitality. Opened in 2025 by brothers Nikos and Costas Antimissaris, the hotel was conceived as a tribute to the traditions, craftsmanship, and landscape that have shaped Sifnos for centuries. Set within 13,000 square metres of gardens and terraces, it feels both contemporary and deeply rooted in place. The name itself tells part of the story. A stamna is a traditional ceramic vessel, long associated with the island’s renowned pottery culture. That spirit runs through every corner of the hotel.
Inspired by Sifnian Heritage
Designed by Tsimpos & Associates, the architecture draws heavily from traditional Cycladic forms. Whitewashed volumes, dry-stone walls, shaded courtyards, and reed-covered pergolas create a composition that feels entirely natural within the landscape. Rather than creating a single monolithic structure, the hotel unfolds as a series of interconnected spaces, echoing the scale and intimacy of a traditional island settlement. The result feels timeless rather than fashionable. A contemporary interpretation of Cycladic architecture rather than a reinvention of it.
Craftsmanship at the Core
Materials play a central role in defining the atmosphere. Floors combine marble sourced from Naxos, Paros, and other Cycladic islands, while custom olive-wood furniture and handcrafted details reinforce the connection to local traditions. Silk, linen, cotton, stone, and cast iron add further layers of texture and authenticity. Throughout the hotel, a carefully considered palette reflects the colours of the island itself. Brick red references Sifnos’ famous ceramics. Leaf green reflects the surrounding landscape. Dusty blue mirrors the endless Aegean beyond. Every detail feels intentional.
Rooms Designed for Slow Living
With only 20 rooms and suites, Stamna retains an intimate, residential character. Each room opens onto a private terrace or garden overlooking the sea, creating a seamless connection between interior and landscape. Natural materials, bespoke furnishings, and soft neutral tones create spaces that feel calm, airy, and deeply comfortable. Several suites feature private plunge pools, while larger accommodations provide additional space for families or groups seeking privacy without sacrificing the hotel’s intimate atmosphere. Luxury here feels understated. And all the more convincing because of it.
Life Around the Pool
At the centre of the property sits a beautifully positioned saltwater pool overlooking the rolling hills and coastline of Sifnos. Surrounded by gardens and shaded lounging areas, it serves as the social heart of the hotel without ever feeling crowded. Days move slowly between swims, long lunches, books beneath pergolas, and conversations that stretch into sunset. The atmosphere encourages a different pace. One defined by stillness rather than schedules.
The Flavours of Sifnos
Restaurant Pilós takes its name from the Greek word for clay, another subtle nod to the island’s pottery traditions. Menus celebrate local ingredients and seasonal produce sourced from nearby farms, fishermen, and the hotel’s own organic garden. Traditional Sifnian recipes provide inspiration, while contemporary techniques add refinement without losing authenticity. Fresh vegetables, legumes, seafood, herbs, olive oil, and carefully selected Greek wines define the experience. Simple food. Beautifully executed.
Wellness Without Formality
Stamna deliberately avoids the conventional luxury spa model. Instead, wellbeing is woven naturally into the experience through yoga sessions, Pilates, hiking trails, outdoor fitness, and in-room treatments surrounded by nature. The emphasis remains on balance, movement, fresh air, and connection to the landscape rather than elaborate wellness rituals. It feels refreshingly human. And entirely in keeping with the hotel’s philosophy.
A Sustainable Island Retreat
Sustainability forms part of the project from the ground up. Rainwater collection systems, local construction materials, organic cultivation, and environmentally conscious operations help minimise impact while strengthening connections with the local community. Even staff uniforms incorporate recycled textiles, reflecting a commitment that extends beyond aesthetics. The approach feels genuine rather than performative.
The Essence of Sifnos
What makes Stamna Sifnos so appealing is its ability to feel both new and familiar. It delivers contemporary comfort and design while remaining deeply connected to the island’s traditions, materials, landscape, and rhythms. Rather than imposing a luxury formula onto its surroundings, it allows Sifnos itself to shape the experience. For travellers seeking authenticity, craftsmanship, and quiet sophistication, Stamna offers one of the most compelling new stays in the Cyclades.
