The Bohemian Bali

The DNA

The Bohemian Bali | Canggu, Indonesia
An Industrial Sanctuary Where Balinese Craftsmanship, Contemporary Design, and Slow Living Meet

Why DNA Hotels Loves It

● A former warehouse transformed into an intimate six-suite retreat that blends industrial architecture with Balinese craftsmanship.
● Beautifully layered interiors by architect Josefina Gruenwald and designers Nyree McKenzie and Fransisca Simon, filled with local art and handcrafted details.
● A thoughtful boutique experience where sustainability, genuine hospitality, and slow living feel completely natural.

From Warehouse to Sanctuary

Hidden behind an unassuming lane in the heart of Canggu, The Bohemian Bali reveals itself gradually. Originally conceived as the transformation of an industrial warehouse, the project reimagines raw architectural elements as a peaceful tropical retreat. Concrete, steel, timber, and stone provide the structure, while lush planting, filtered daylight, and open-air spaces soften every edge. Industrial becomes intimate. Architecture embraces nature.

Industrial Meets Bali

The design language feels distinctive yet remarkably relaxed. Triple-height ceilings, exposed concrete, sculptural staircases, handcrafted timber, woven rattan, textured plaster, volcanic stone, and tropical planting create interiors that balance urban loft aesthetics with traditional Balinese warmth. Works by local artists, handcrafted ceramics, bold murals, and bespoke furniture reinforce the feeling that the hotel functions as a living gallery rather than simply a place to stay. Every object feels curated. Every space feels alive.

Only Six Suites

With just six suites, privacy comes naturally. Several accommodations feature secluded plunge pools surrounded by tropical gardens, while others overlook the communal swimming pool and hardwood deck. Floor-to-ceiling sliding doors blur the boundary between indoors and outdoors, allowing natural light, fresh air, and greenery to become part of everyday living. Carefully considered details—from artisan ceramics to rotating televisions and thoughtful amenities—reflect the hotel’s residential character. Luxury feels personal, never excessive.

A House Built Around Hospitality

The Bohemian’s greatest luxury is its sense of welcome. Traditional Balinese rituals introduce guests to the island from the moment they arrive, while intuitive service remains warm, relaxed, and deeply personal throughout every stay. The guest-only eatery continues the same philosophy with an open kitchen showcasing Indonesian flavours through seasonal ingredients, contemporary techniques, and beautifully presented dishes. Everything feels effortless. Nothing feels rehearsed.

The Creative Side of Canggu

Although surrounded by Canggu’s cafés, boutiques, and surf culture, The Bohemian maintains an atmosphere of quiet retreat. Guests can easily explore the neighbourhood before returning to an oasis shaped by art, music, architecture, and tropical gardens. Sustainability strengthens the experience further through solar energy, electric transport, locally sourced materials, and partnerships with Balinese artisans. The energy stays nearby while the calm stays within.

Why It Works

The Bohemian Bali succeeds because it never follows the predictable formula of a tropical boutique hotel. By combining industrial architecture with Balinese craftsmanship, contemporary art, sustainable thinking, and genuinely heartfelt hospitality, it creates an experience that feels authentic from beginning to end. It is one of Canggu’s most distinctive design retreats—where creativity, comfort, and island life exist in perfect balance.
