The Box – Riccione, Where Design Escapes the Ordinary
An avant-garde revival of an abandoned hotel, transformed into Riviera cool
A Radical Reboot on the Adriatic Coast
Following an overhaul of the formerly abandoned Hotel Sixty, the seaside Italian town of Riccione has been given a new lease of life in the form of The Box. Reopened in June 2018 after an intense eight-month renovation led by architects Marianna Chiaraluce and Alfredo Monetti, the property shakes off its mid-century dust and embraces a bold, contemporary identity. Positioned just steps from Viale Milano and the beachfront, The Box redefines what a Riviera stay can look like—youthful, design-forward, and refreshingly off-script.
Curated Eclecticism with Global Flair
An eclectic, global mix of furnishings dots the property’s spacious public areas and 40 guestrooms. From brass handmade lamps—courtesy of Lebanese lighting company PSLab—to bedside tables from Moroso, and seating from Knoll and Poland’s 366 Concept, international design collaboration is fully on display. The result is a layered, cosmopolitan aesthetic that feels at once curated and comfortably lived-in, like stepping into the home of a worldly friend.
An Attitude That Speaks “Less, But Better”
The Box is not about excess—it’s about intention. The lobby and lounge areas encourage lingering, with creative vignettes and intimate corners that invite conversation. The vibe is laid-back yet quietly luxurious, a blend of Riviera energy and urban sophistication that speaks to a new generation of travelers who value design as much as destination.
Food, Fun, and Unexpected Moments
On the ground floor, MAD – Meet And Drink serves as a lively all-day hub for guests and locals. Brunch here is a ritual, the cocktail menu a draw in itself, and the Pink-Pong Room—yes, an actual pink ping-pong space—adds a whimsical touch that keeps the atmosphere playful.
Why DNA Hotels Loves It
The Box is Riviera irreverence with a design soul. Forged from the bones of overlooked heritage, it’s a place where global aesthetics meet local soul, offering guests refreshment through originality. More than just a hotel, it’s a statement on how to rewrite the past with fearless style.
