Thompson Dallas

The DNA

Thompson Dallas – Dallas, Texas
Mid-century grandeur, boldly reimagined in the heart of downtown Dallas.

Why DNA Hotels Loves It

● A spectacular restoration of Dallas’ iconic First National Bank Tower, blending mid-century architecture with contemporary luxury.
● Richly layered interiors by Caroline Todd, where Texan craftsmanship, contemporary art and 1960s glamour create a distinctive sense of place.
● One of Dallas’ most vibrant lifestyle destinations, combining exceptional dining, expansive outdoor spaces and panoramic skyline views.

A Landmark Reimagined

Originally completed in 1961 as the First National Bank Tower, the George Dahl-designed skyscraper once held the title of the tallest building west of the Mississippi. After years of vacancy, the landmark has been meticulously restored as The National, with Thompson Dallas occupying its most prestigious spaces. Original brass-inlaid wood panelling, travertine walls and more than 17,000 marble panels sourced from the same quarry as the Parthenon preserve the building’s remarkable heritage while introducing a new era of contemporary hospitality.

Texas Modernism with Manhattan Sophistication

The Thompson brand’s urban elegance feels perfectly at home in Dallas. Interior designer Caroline Todd infused the historic tower with more than two million dollars’ worth of contemporary art, bespoke furnishings and carefully selected pieces from international galleries, while retaining a distinctly Texan identity through leather, cowhide, brass and locally inspired craftsmanship. The result feels cinematic—part Mad Men, part modern Texas—balancing timeless sophistication with bold personality.

Rooms Above the Skyline

The 219 guestrooms and 52 suites continue the conversation between heritage and contemporary design. Vintage-inspired furnishings, sculptural lighting and rich natural materials are complemented by thoughtful luxuries including Frette robes, D.S. & Durga amenities and locally made treats. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame sweeping views across downtown Dallas, while the spectacular penthouse suites elevate the experience even further with private elevators, fireplaces, dedicated concierge service and panoramic city views from almost every room.

The New Social Heart of Downtown

Thompson Dallas has quickly established itself as one of the city’s premier gathering places. Catbird blends intimate leather banquettes with an expansive rooftop terrace overlooking the Dallas skyline, while Michelin-starred chef Danny Grant oversees Monarch and Kessaku, two of the city’s most celebrated dining destinations. Beyond its restaurants, the hotel offers a luxurious spa, landscaped outdoor terraces, resort-style pool and generous social spaces that have transformed this former banking headquarters into one of downtown Dallas’ most dynamic lifestyle destinations.
