Wm. Mulherin’s Sons – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Industrial heritage, exceptional food and loft-style living in the heart of Fishtown.
Why DNA Hotels Loves It
● A beautifully restored 19th-century whiskey distillery transformed into one of Philadelphia’s most characterful boutique stays.
● Just four loft-style guestrooms, combining industrial architecture with warm, residential design and thoughtful craftsmanship.
● Home to one of Fishtown’s most celebrated restaurants, where wood-fired Italian cooking helped define the neighbourhood’s culinary revival.
A Distillery with a New Purpose
Originally home to the William Mulherin & Sons whiskey business, this imposing industrial building stood vacant for decades before being carefully reimagined as a boutique hotel and restaurant. Today, its restored brick façade, complete with the original painted signage, remains a local landmark that reflects Fishtown’s remarkable transformation from manufacturing district to one of Philadelphia’s most creative neighbourhoods.
Industrial Character, Residential Comfort
The design preserves the building’s authentic industrial character while introducing a warm, contemporary atmosphere. Exposed brick walls, heavy timber beams and steel-framed factory windows provide the backdrop for vintage rugs, custom oak furniture, leather accents and carefully selected artwork. Rather than polishing away the building’s imperfections, the interiors celebrate them, creating spaces that feel both refined and deeply connected to the property’s history.
Loft Living Above the Restaurant
With only four guestrooms, Wm. Mulherin’s Sons offers an experience that feels more like staying in a beautifully designed city loft than a traditional hotel. Spacious layouts, Revival linens, freestanding clawfoot bathtubs, handcrafted tiled bathrooms and vintage record players create an atmosphere of understated luxury, while oversized windows overlook the lively streets of Fishtown. Every room is individual, intimate and full of personality.
The Heart of Fishtown
Downstairs, the acclaimed restaurant has become one of Philadelphia’s essential dining destinations. Its wood-fired oven anchors a menu of contemporary Italian cooking, attracting locals and visitors alike to a dining room filled with exposed brick, warm lighting and the comforting glow of the open hearth. Step outside and some of Philadelphia’s best cafés, breweries, galleries and live music venues are all within walking distance. Few boutique hotels feel as naturally woven into the fabric of their neighbourhood as Wm. Mulherin’s Sons.
