Where the Building Is Part of the Journey

Some hotels are memorable because of where they are. Others because of the building itself. Architectural Hotels celebrates places where architecture defines the experience—from bold contemporary structures created by leading architects to historic buildings given an entirely new life through imaginative adaptive reuse. These are hotels where form, materials, history and surroundings matter, and where staying the night means experiencing the architecture from the inside.

Long Story Short | Olomouc, Czechia

Long Story Short

Long Story Short is a casually hip hostel in the Czech city of Olomouc. Located in the old town, it is a short meander away from the main square and other ecclesiastical sights such as the Holy Trinity Column. The hostel is set in a 17th-century horseshoe-shaped building of 1,000m2 (11,000 square feet) that was used for military purposes. Inside, the restored building shows original details combined with a mix of (mostly Czech) vintage furnishings and simple materials such as wood, metal and concrete.

Whitewashed walls provide backdrops for cacti and frame ocean views at the laid-back Hotel San Cristóbal, with the hotel’s vibe minimal and beachy, reminiscent of the Baja in the 1970s. The boutique hotel is located directly on the beach of Todos Santos. One of Mexico’s “pueblos magicos” it is in a transition from fishing village to bohemian getaway to emerging tourist destination.
